I have known people who would grab a church bulletin just for the discount.

Lots of them. The smart ones would grab a few. I doubt they check the dates.

Ok wait. Since this was on Fox, has anyone verified with another source it's actually true?

This is simply anti-religion. If it were discounts if you wear your Boy Scout uniform or your Moose Lodge hat no one would care.

No, not really. He's not asking you if you're a Mohammeden, Jew, Buddhist or Christian. He's asking you for a bulletin. I know, it's a picayune difference, but there is a difference. I've seen lawyers argue about less.

However, according to the story, he doesn't say "I'll only admit Christians of a particular sect."

He says, bring a church bulletin.

...

The first statement is discriminatory. I fail to see how the second one is.
Are you serious? Jews, muslims, and atheists don't go to church.

I suppose an atheist can't be blamed for not wanting to enter a church even to just grab a bulletin and leave because...well, because who knows what might happen.

Dan, you need to back off the liberal swill you've been drinking for a while. There is nothing wrong with the accuracy of Fox News' reporting. That's just the result of you having bought into liberal demonizing.

As for the topic of the thread, good grief. A retail establishment is NOT a "public place". It's a private business. If a business owner wants to offer a promotion to bring in business, he has a right to do it. Mik is correct - this is nothing more than religion bashing, the same kind of stupidity we have to put up with from the Left in this country that gives us the "faux news" crap.

Now pardon me while I go hang a "No Muslims, Liberals, or other morons allowed" sign in my window.....

Come on George! We've both seen lawyers argue about nothing.

Thanks for posting the other link by the way. Did it really take you over 3 hours to find another source? :-)

Do I think it's discrimination? Yeah, probably. Kind of a nit-picking case, but as you say lawyers will be happy to take it up anyway.

And for those getting ready to tell me I couldn't hang a sign like that in my window, take a guess at what would happen to the unfortunate fool who walked into my place of business and demanded I take it down.

Sorry Larry. Been on the swill so long I don't think I can kick the habit.

Does your sign mean I'm no longer welcome in your shop? I'm guessing in your book I hit two of the three criteria.

Within limits. You can't give a 'white person' discount. And you can't say Jews have to pay more. etc. etc.

That's true Jon, but there's nothing wrong with offering a discount for bringing in a church bulletin. Black people go to church too, you know. So do Jews.

I don't rent videos. I sell pizzas, and give you free movies with it.... :D

Although you'd be amazed at how many people still rent videos.

Church is a christian thing, guys. It is not a generic term for 'house of worship'. Even if it was, it would exclude freethinkers and I doubt would pass muster with the '64 act.

Er, not really. I was running errands.

And, had you read the original story, rather than just dismissing it out-of-hand because the source was a Fox affiliate (not Foxnews, by the way), you would have found the link there.

Just like I did.

Jon, the whole idea behind this is to drum up business. I imagine if you walked into the store and said "I don't have a church bulletin because I'm a brain dead liberal unable to grasp the notion that there's anything greater than me in the universe but I'd like the discount", they would be more than happy to give it to you.

And "church" may be a christian term, but people who don't have their heads rammed up their asses can usually figure it out that the offer being made is using it in a generic sense, and simply want to drum up business.

So any and all forms of discounting should be prohibited. Everybody pays the same...

Christians should pay more because they already get free wine and that funny carboard bread so they don't need to eat as much.

Actually, the Protestant church I've been to over here didn't even give us freaking wine, but bloody grape juice. Presumably due to the large number of alcoholics in the audience, er congregation. What a bloody rip-off that was.

Not completely true - I personally know some athiests that go the Unitarian Church. I'm assuming the restaurant would take a Unitarian church bulletin?
