"Any man who would make an X rated movie should be forced to take his daughter to see it". - John Wayne There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it". What's the difference? |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

I appreciate your attempt at an explanation, but it just shows the vapidity and self serving hollowness of the gay rhetoric. I get the whole point of being told they are to be ashamed and that the pride element is some kneejerk rejection of that in order to try to uphold one's dignity. But I agree with Kenny that gay pride is just as harmful as gay shame. Without a meaningful way to ground the human reality of either pride or shame in the psychic life of the human, both of these movements in the soul are liable to creating more imbalance and to work against human integration.
Clearly no. They divine aspect of human love is the ability to participate in the creation of human life and the creation of a family of love relationships that goes beyond the two to the many. Gay relationships are incapable of this. There is no sense of participation in the divine mystery which is open to life and future generations. All of that is just ersatz -- the inclination for generative love is immediately frustrated by fact that homosexual sex is completely incapable of it and it can only be supplied artificially by some equal rights claim to adopt, to by bringing in a third party to impregnate (thus showing the reality behind the claim of "union").
The problem with that is it only makes sense in the reduction love to a genital expression. The claim is that there is something praise worthy about loving someone of the same sex, but that really means sexual -- the normal human experience of love (and the highest expression) is not about that but self sacrifice. In and of itself, such love requires NO genital expression, and the chaste monk can love as Christ loves the Church, by giving up one's life (desires, passion, pleasure, self regard, etc) and serving others without repayment. So too the married couple who freely give and receive each other not for mutual satisfaction but for life itself and the openness to loving the unknown future offspring. *That* is beautiful and powerful since it is quite transcendent and beyond the confines of the two. You want to make a gay relationship some sort of high expression of divine love, but it cannot hold that weight. Now you can of course argue that either the divine expression is only some impossible ideal, or a fabrication of human consciousness, but if you are going to uphold it as a divine expression then you have a whole lot of serious theological lifting to do such that a homosexual relationship can bear the mystery of Christ's relationship to the Church -- I doubt that anal sex and oral sex and mutual masturbation are conducive to that, but go ahead and give it a try. |

Mik, IT, my comment wasn't a crack or a slur at all. It was just a serious point that I wasn't going to get into another long, drawn-out conversation about the issue. Indeed, IT stated his thoughts very clearly and cogently - although not quite as non-confrontationally as you're claiming. As I said, I have a different take on those points, and could offer a similarly clear and cogent response. But my point is that it really doesn't matter. All of our positions have been stated before, many, many times. It would be a pointless waste of time tojust rehash it all. Worse, it could lead to a gradual ratcheting-up of the rhetoric as the discussion ensued, until it finally ends up in anger on one or both parties. And what end does that serve? None. It would ultimately do nothing to forward meaningful conversation, since we'd only be repeating points we've already made ad nauseum, and it would only end up adding to the friction and heat surrounding the issue that's already excessive and counterproductive. I don't want to add to it. I'm choosing not to play the game out of respect for both friendship as well as the underlying issue at hand. I said what I wanted to say. I don't feel any need to defend it for the next week, while everyone else watches the unfolding train wreck of a debate and wonders what the hell's wrong with both of us. And if anyone wants to consider that kind of refusal as retreat, or losing a debate, I'm OK with that. I'm a loser. If you doubt it, I'll be happy to provide references.

Basically, what you said earlier about his crass and unprofessional jokes. I had barely heard of the guy, let alone paid any attention to him before that. A straight person would generally not take so much glee in mocking their political opposition with gross innuendos that were clearly homosexual in intent. |
