HOLY CARP!!!
(really? more than 24 hours and no one has done this yet?!)

My hair went all stupid (only on one side) today and then my iron spewed rusty water on a silk blouse I was ironing so I had to rinse out the spots and iron again and was almost late for work and I'm hungry and forgot my lunch at home.

Ah, you forgot to tell the iron, "No shenanigans today!"

Try that next time. It works for me.

A more robust solution would be not to have 'em.

what, whines or irons? believe me, I'm a minimalist ironer. Had to do all the ironing (to mum's standards) when I was growing up and hence have never really developed a love for that chore. Unfortunaely I have a fondness for natural fibres, linen and silk etc., which demand time on the ironing board. I did actually clean the iron last night (never done that before :whome: )

not having whines is out of the question, I'm afraid.

Minimalist ironer here, too, sue. I learned solid ironing skills while working at a bridal shop during high school. When I wasn't selling wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and mothers dresses, there was always pressing and steaming to do in the back room. Lots of practice there to please a fussy clientele. I use my iron often as a vertical steamer. It's very fast and does the job.

Funny - my beloved worked in a high end women's clothing shop through high school. SHe is a devotee of the steamer.

So, one of those stand vertical steamer things? Or just a small hand thing? Are they good enough to get wrinkles out of silk and linen?
I'm listening.

Me? Suggesting we stop whining? Ah ha ha, sue that truly is too much! Too much I say!

As for ironing, I've been on an incredible 3-year streak of doing without. Heck I'm right now wearing a shirt almost a decade old. Dagged out, I am!

I know they work for silk and many fabrics, but I'm not sure for linen.

It's a vertical. Beyond that I wouldn't know, Sue. If it has to be pressed it goes to the cleaner. I'll ask.
