Just found out that Amazon now has a 5 gigabyte cloud service - pretty much like everyone else. Sugarsync, Dropbox, iCloud, and others seem to have a similar package: 5 gigs for free, but you can upgrade either by referring people (Sugarsync (which I use) and Dropbox) or by paying a little (or a lot) extra. Well, Amazon sweetened the deal. If you upgrade, you can upload as much of YOUR music as you want, and it won't count against your online storage. So, if you upgrade the 5 gigs to 20 (for $20 annually), you can upload as much of your music as you desire, and not reach the 20 gig limit. They also have their Amazon "Cloud Player" App which looks a lot like iTunes (playlists, searches, etc), so you can access all of your uploaded music on your handheld as long as you have internet connectivity. Limited time offer, they say. |

You can access all the music you upload to the cloud from your iPhone, without taking up any room on your iPhone. |

I don't have an iPhone, but maybe someday I will or will have at least some smart phone version. Any idea if it also works for a generic smart phone? |

I'm almost certain it works for Android (you need the Amazon Cloud Player app). Cloud Player app. I have a big iPod on which I keep my music for work. Now, I don't need it, for I uploaded my playlists to Amazon, and I can access them with my phone. Edited by George K, Jun 12 2012, 01:54 PM.

Google music (and Amazon) have been doing this for over a year now, with Google offering enough storage for 20k songs. Amazon and Google Music players both work well on Android, and I use both - though I prefer Google because since it is strictly music, it also gives great deals on purchases through the service, and because it allows so much more storage. My 8GB iPhone holds about 30GB of music now. ![]() I may have an invite or two if anyone needs one for Google Music. Their desktop client is also great. |
