Ran 10.5 miles today, and I was famished for dinner.

Your next race is a half, right? I canīt wait for our weather to cool enough to increase distance again.

I had sandwiches that were leftover from a picnic. They had been sitting in the hot car all day, but I didn't get sick, so yay! Good sandwiches - all the fixin's were from the fancy health food store.
And how are you today?

Yes, a half in San Francisco. I decided not to let a few 3% climbs scare me, I'm used to running in the foothills of a mountain anyway.

Sweet! The views of San Francisco would more than make up for any extra hill pain.

Better than In-N-Out?
What burger place isn't?

Heck, I'll take Wendy's over In-N-Out.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

It's an out and back from Fisherman's Wharf to the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Should be very scenic, if it doesn't rain on me.

Simple food:

Chicken roasted in the vertical rotisserie (seasoned with McCormicks herb and garlic rub)
Mashed potatoes
Green beans.

But, simple is good.
 That sounds amazing.
It was pretty tasty. It was a big bird, and the Mrs. and I ate half of it. The other half went into a ZipLoc vacuum bag and then into the freezer for another day.

On the agenda for this week:

1) "Cream" sausage - it's a local thing
2) Swedish meatballs
3) Pizza (probably on Friday - I'm on call Sat, and the Mrs likes to have leftover 'za on the nights I'm on call)
Hmmmm....a roux, the trinity, a bit of chicken broth, deboned chicken, some smoked sausage and a few spices...we can have gumbo later this week...

I made the BEST carbonara ever the other night. It's from my new Jonathon Waxman books. Fantastic. I'll have to post the recipe. It just uses the egg yolks, not the whites.

I had that wonderful Straus Whole Milk Organic Yogurt, from Trader Joe's.

I let it sit out to hit room temperature, so it gets even thinner, and just drink it.

It's like a protein shake, only it tastes better and it's better for you.

God's food.

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Either:

I have sh!takes and figs to use up, so...

Grilled chicken and Asparagus with Sh!take Mushrooms

or

Pan Roasted Pork Loin Chops and Green Beans with Figs and Walnuts (recipe below)

6 servings

Ingredients:

2 pounds fresh green beans, rinsed, drained and ends trimmed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, cut into small dice
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, minced
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest (from 2 or 3 lemons)
1 teaspoon fig balsamic vinegar
6 fresh figs, cut into sixths (may substitute rehydrated dried figs; see headnote)
Salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Water, as needed
1/2 cup walnut pieces, toasted (see NOTE)
Directions:

Fill a large saucepan three-quarters full with water and bring to a boil over high heat. Carefully add the green beans; once the water returns to a boil, cook for 4 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water until the beans are cool to the touch.

Add the oil to the saucepan and return to the stove over medium heat. When it is hot, add the onion and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion starts to soften. Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the rosemary, honey, mustard, lemon zest and vinegar; mix well to form a glaze.

Add the cooled green beans and stir to coat evenly, then add the figs. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook for about 3 minutes, until the beans are warmed through and the flavors have had a chance to mingle. If the glaze begins to thicken and stick to the bottom of the saucepan, add water a tablespoon at a time to achieve the desired consistency.

Remove from the heat. Toss in the walnuts and serve warm, or at room temperature.

NOTE: Toast walnuts in a dry skillet over medium-low heat for 4 to 6 minutes or until fragrant, shaking them occasionally to keep them from burning.
