Simple food:

Chicken roasted in the vertical rotisserie (seasoned with McCormicks herb and garlic rub)
Mashed potatoes
Green beans.

But, simple is good.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Simple is the best.

Pan roasted lamb chops
wilted spinach with garlic and Meyer lemon olive oil
bib lettuce with a little blue cheese dressing

We had blackened chilean sea bass and haricots verts sautéed in black bean garlic sauce.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

i know, i know. but a distinction is made in the store. haricots verts are the very thin ones, much more tender. green beans (which we eat a lot of) are thicker and have tougher skin.

at least thats how it is around here.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

You can tell he's one of the 1%. He even put the funny little accent over the e in sautéed. I initially thought he'd just spelt 'salted' wrong, but then I looked it up, and apparently it's the froggy word for fried.

Why he couldn't just write he was eating fried fish with beans is a bit beyond me, but that's rich your East Coast elitists for you.

I was just bemoaning the fact that I haven't any decent tipple. All the scotch and bourbon and brandy I have are for cooking or company that wouldn't know the difference. I had meant to go get a bottle of that single barrel bourbon, but haven't gotten across the river yet.

And that was a classic D'Oh post. :lol2:

I went to the grocery store the other day and found that they didn't carry my usual (cheap) Scotch, so I got a bottle of Jameson's Irish whiskey.

Not my favorite, but it'll do for St. Patty's day - even for a Lithuanian.

Nothing special for dinner, but I am enjoying a few Smithwick's tonight.

It was pretty tasty. It was a big bird, and the Mrs. and I ate half of it. The other half went into a ZipLoc vacuum bag and then into the freezer for another day.

On the agenda for this week:

1) "Cream" sausage - it's a local thing
2) Swedish meatballs
3) Pizza (probably on Friday - I'm on call Sat, and the Mrs likes to have leftover 'za on the nights I'm on call)

Eh, you know me, I'm not too much of a foodie so for the most part I keep it basic. I go through a LOT of fruit here, and drastically less meat, but other than that nothing too out of the ordinary.

I am, however, gonna have me some Yum Cha here pretty soon! I think they have this in China but even by the Chinese folks here I'm told that the Australian version's pretty unique. Our equivalent back home might be dim sum or Chinese Buffet but that doesn't do it justice either.

It's not food so much as it is a social thing. You go with a group of 3-4 (more than that is pushing it, given the setup), and while you sit there various trollies pass by with different kinds of food. If you like what's on one, you hail the driver so to speak, pick out what you want and continue eating.

The trend in my area (and I'm told most other places) seems to be that restaurants tend to make small, individually portioned things, so it's not like a buffet in which you take something out of a big pile. Anyways, should be interestin'. Not too 'spensive either.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Oh, and I gots me some buckwheat flour at some crazy ass gnostic food* (hey it's what they called it) store so Imma soon make me some buckwheat cakes. That's a big one from my home area, we have a whole festival devoted to 'em.

*just one of those weird freaking things you find. A newly developed area of town (by comparison) has converted a handful of older warehouses to shops, and a group of gnostics took over the whole damn block: gnostic food, gnostic head shops, gnostic convenience stores and gnostic hairdressers and cafes. Seriously. Talk about weird.

The foodstore seemed at least mostly harmless.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Single Charburger and onion rings from The Habit, which is now my favorite burger place. Ran 10.5 miles today, and I was famished for dinner.

I haven't had buckwheat cakes, but they look delicious on google. I have used buckwheat flour to make savory crepes -- stuffed with ricotta, gruyere, parmesan, asparagus, and Black Forest ham.

If I'm going for a burger, I don't even go to In-N-Out anymore. Their salads are good too, like the Santa Barbara Cobb. I think IT has had their tri-tip sandwich.
