I think the emphasis is on the 'what'.

Quote:

As readers know, I have no pecuniary interest in the Rush Limbaugh show, which I seldom have the chance to listen to, although I do read his transcripts from time to time. About 20 million Americans do listen at least once a month and good for him. He earned it. This slut controversy is costing him some big bucks in the short term, but in the long term he will prevail.

My prediction: On January 21, 2013, Barack Obama will be out of the White House and Rush Limbaugh will be on the radio.

And if you own a business, you should advertise on his show (in addition to taking out an ad on political newspaper blogs run by people whose last names rhyme with Urber). Rush’s ratings are up — both in number and in dander.

Companies that bailed on Rush have lost the patronage of millions of conservatives.

Companies that sign up now, will be rewarded.

Another brain surgeon on his day off. He reads Rush Limbaugh transcripts

Unless Clear Channel utterly fails their due diligence test, the proposed ads (however uncontroversial they end up being, not that I think the westboro church is are capable of that) will never make it on the air.

Besides that point, it is kind of an interesting story.

You know, if you're going to trot out absolute BS, it ought to be at least a bit amusing.

Someone should have said that to Limbaugh about 20 years ago.

I think his paycheck is a valid indicator of his market worth as an entertainer.

You don't make that kind of money unless you are very, very good (along with some luck, of course). And if your schtick is political discourse, it can't be all BS, there has to be some meat in there or you won't survive.

I'm not sure if it's the meat or the bombast that makes liberals cringe so much.

Adam Sandler makes 40 million a year. So much for that theory.

And I would submit the market has determined he's very, very good at what he does.

I find it very truthful, myself. Market forces and all; Jolly's right.

But disturbing? Sure it is, on a number of fundamental levels.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

The idea that 'high market worth' and 'very very good' are one and the same thing is open to some debate. Particularly, it has to be said, when it comes to anything played on commercial radio stations.

(For any foreigners reading this, the above is an example of British understatement. Translated into American English, it roughly translates to 'dude.....')

Ah, the market determines value. Then:

1. Helfgott is the greatest classical pianist.
2. Elton John or Billy Joel is the greatest pianist.
3. New York is a better state than Louisiana.
4. American Idol is the best show on television.
5. Dan Brown is better than Ernest Hemingway.
6. The Super Bowl is the best football game.
7. Bill Gates is the best person, unless it's some middle eastern sheik.
8. Any hip-hop radio station is better than any NPR station.
9. Fox News is better than the BBC.
10. Anything is a better movie than The Artist.
11. As a human being, Jesus Christ was a no-account loser.

You got a problem with any of these?

I have no trouble with my statement.

I have some trouble with your perceptions of market value, which are geared to challenge my statement. A rose is a rose, until somebody tries to convince you it's a pork chop...

That was only true up until the point at which he was publicly traded. Nowadays he's anything but a toxic asset.

My apologies if I've misunderstood you. What specifically does the market prove about Adam Sandler and Rush Limbaugh?
