Very few priests, I know none, will ask about the status of any previous marriage, or anything else, before giving communion.
Don't ask, don't tell.

More like it doesn't matter.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

You just can't force people to like you. Most people learned that in elementary school.
Doesn't Rick Santorum believe you can 'persuade' lesbians to like boys?

That "explanation" that 'Oh but we are all sinners' doesn't fly since others get communion.

No Kenny - this is a misunderstanding of the religion, this tradition, and its current practice.
The priest is obligated to withhold communion from anyone who isn't prepared/ready. This of course can vary by priest and what he might perceive - but in general someone who's not prepared to receive communion isn't supposed to receive it.

If a priest knows someone is sinning unrepentantly, they are not to receive communion.

So why did Judas get it?

Maybe this is the proof we've been searching for that the disciples were not in fact Roman Catholics!

I don't know - perhaps IT has a better answer - but I'd guess because Christ was giving it directly, and Christ commanded all to commune?

It's a delicate line many priests walk, between Christ's commandment to partake of his Body and Blood, and the Church's protection of that sacrament as something holy and to be protected.

I'll give you two reasons I no longer attend church services at the Lutheran Church (Misery Synod).

Benke Suspended for 'Syncretism' after 9/11 Event
Interfaith prayer exposes divisions in LCMS
Todd Hertz

July 1, 2002

Twelve days after the September 11 attacks, David Benke followed Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, and Hindu clerics to the podium of a Yankee Stadium event to honor the missing and the dead. Benke asked attendees to join hands and pray with him "on this field of dreams turned into God's house of prayer." He prayed "in the precious name of Jesus" and sat down.

That prayer has led to Benke's suspension from the clergy roster of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). It has also exposed deep divisions in the church. Denomination pastors, on condition of anonymity, say the dispute is partly an attempt to unseat synod President Gerald Kieshnick, who approved Benke's participation in the "Prayer for America" event.

The second reason: The father of a member of the church my wife used to attend passed away about 4 years ago. The member asked the pastor to bury her father. He declined, giving the reason that he did not know the man, and could not, in good conscience, give him a "Christian" burial.

As Dave said, you have the right to include or exclude whomever you want from your private club. Similarly, I have the right to not attend or contribute - which I have chosen.

GK: I totally agree, and would make the same choice in your position.

One of the five pastors who filed a complaint against Benke was the pastor of the church we attended before we went to the "refuse to bury" church.

To see such intolerance at two churches told me a lot.

Now I'm a Creaster Lutheran.

It's worth noting that Jesus gave Communion to Judas Iscariot.

Judas was doing the lord's work, was he not?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

How about you start some threads about highly contentious issues, guaranteed to get people in a fine old state of moral indignation and I'll post inane, lews and otherwise annoying wise-cracks into them?

There's nothing quite as satisfying as posting a good old fashioned knob joke in the middle of a theological debate, or somebody's abortion rant.

Free will?

At the time of the Last Supper, didn't Judas still have the ability to back out of his deal?

I have the same question for the lesbian Catholic lady as I do for Log Cabin Republicans.

Exactly what did you THINK was going to happen?

Maybe she was hoping for some money.

All she got was an apology and some headlines.

Yeah, because those Republicans sure started a witch hunt on gays back when they were in power. Wow, how many did we lynch again? I'm surprised there's any left.

The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.
