Because of Going away next Thursday we decided to have our
Valentine Dinner last night. I made:
Brazilian Black Rice.
Black Rice
Add, Sauteed in Butter, Chopped Onion and Garlic.
Set aside and keep warm.

Saute In EVOO Shrimp, S&P, 1/2 tsp Chopped Rosemary
Set aside.
Saute in EVOO Squid, S&P, 1/2 tsp Chopped Rosemary
Set aside.
Add one cup dry white wine, 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, cook one minute.
Add 3/4 cup tomato sauce And the seafood, cook until heated through.

Mound the rice on plates, top with the seafood and sauce, and serve.
I had a nice Chilian Sauvignon Blanc.......Casillero Diablo.
Great name for a wine served on a Saints day.

Sue on a trip to Vegas last year I had Tapas and one of the dishes was Black Rice. I liked it. When I got home I found a store that sold it and bought a pound. Also some Sticky Rice.
Black is smaller Kernels and a very nutty taste. Even plain I find it much more satisfying then white. It takes longer to cook than white rice.
In Vegas it was served with Chopped onion, garlic, Jalapeño, and
mushrooms. No sauce, and it was wonderful.
What I made last night came out very good. I'll make it again.

Last night we had an arugula pizza from Trader Joe's, mentioned in the latest Fearless Flyer.

Pretty good for a frozen pizza.

No, I find wild rice strong. Try the black. I'm not going to give up white, but "Black is beautiful!"
If you cant find it Let me know and I'll mail you some.

We went to the hotel's Cuban themed restaurant last night for our Valentines dinner date. I had a trio of ceviche that was killer (Shrimp, Calamari, Octopus, Cilantro, Olive Oil & Meyer Lemon,

Lobster, Coconut and Crab, Jalapeños, Ginger, Cilantro & Key Lime Juice

Ahi Tuna,Sliced Avocado, Florida Orange Juice, Soy Sauce & Wasabi Drizzle)and a very good paella. My beloved had a spinach and artichoke appetizer and a roast chicken marinated in Naranja Agria (sour orange juice), Olive Oil, White Wine & Light Tomato Cuban Creole Sauce.

Th Best Flan Ever for dessert.

Thanks for the tip Vince, sounds like a rice I would like to try.

FYI Brenda, a quick Google indicates black rice might go under the brand name forbidden rice. I'll try Trader Joe's.

Sounds intriguing. We re throwing a dinner party for ten or twelve next weekend with a Spanish-Cuban theme, so that rice with calamari could well be on the menu.

That's 'cause wild rice ain't really rice. :) I love it, often throw a handful in with my brown basmati.

I will look for some black rice. I bought some once before and found it waaaaay to glutinous and didn't like the flavour at all, but maybe it was something that was treated/flavoured in some way. Time to try again. What you did with it sounds good!

Vince, I love wild rice. That reminds me to make some soon.

Yet, I will look for this other kind you are talking about, too. I'd like to try it. I must say though that I'm surprised anything is too strong for a big, handsome guy like you, Vince. ;)

Indeed wild rice isn't rice, but its still good. I too like to mix it 1 to 10 with brown basmati. yum!

I like black rice too. Have never made it at home, though.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

If y'all want something a bit different, look around for popcorn rice.

The flavor is supposedly a bit like popcorn, hence the name.
