I built my basement many years ago intending to use 90 watt flood lights for lighting - more efficient that 65 watt and brighter. I haven't been able to get 90 watt flood lights for a number of years thanks to efficiency zealots. Efficiency is OK by me, but the reason I buy lights is for light, not to save electricity. Today I spotted a display for 6" recessed LEDs at Lowes. I haven't found the lumens I want yet, but there is hope! ![]() |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |

We have been installing a lot of these lately: ![]() I couldn't find a picture that shows the size but they're big - like the size of a small pineapple. The draw 65 watts and put out the light of a 300 watt incandescent lamp. $20 at Home Centers. They are too bright for (and won't fit in) your table lamp, but if you have the space they're awesome. Garages, warehouses, outdoor lighting, basements, etc. No ballasts to mess with either - the ballast is contained in the lamp. Rated life is 7 years and I have yet to see any fail. Could make for the mother of all reading lamps if you cold find a fixture that it fits in. |

I found an LED that put out just a little less light output than a 60-watt bulb. Used that for my garage opener because I hope they can stand up to the vibrations better and I like the instant on of the LED over the previous CFL. The light is a little too blue-white for me, even though the pkg said it was only 3000 on the scale. Seems like the LEDs in the 2500 area are still quite a bit dimmer than I want. |
