Get here in 90 minutes. I just printed the recipe to take to the kitchen.

I bought some salt especially designed for topping pretzels. And that shine - it's butter.

I'll make a double batch, so there'll be plenty for you, George.

Just be careful pulling them out of the oven. We don't want you to get a Twisted Blisster.

As Dan would say, "Holy Cow!!"

These are terrific!! I made a double batch and got 17 pretzels. There are only two left now.

Dinner was going to be steak, salad and baked potato, but once the pretzels came out of the oven and got buttered, dinner became pretzels, German mustard, broccoli, cauliflower, cheeses, and a little sliced turkey. The only way it would have been better is with Weisswurst and some good German beer. (Hi, Klaus! )

These would be worth the trip to Minnesoooooota, guys!

apple, you and your kiddos would have a ball making these! I thought of you and R2 as I rolled out the long ropes of dough and twisted them into the pretzel shapes. It was really quite fun, and very fast.

I started trying soft pretzel recipes back when I was a nanny. They never turned out bad, but very rarely did they turn out anywhere near to what I was hoping -- y´know, like an Auntie Annie´s pretzel, or something you´d get in Philly, but fresh.

A couple weeks ago I made the BEST pretzels ever -- better than Auntie Annie´s. Gotta leave the baking soda dip is the key, but it´s gotta be for enough time (I used to just dip them in briefly, but this time I left them in a good 30 seconds). Amazing.

Making them again today. My recipe is more a mix of various recipes, but definitely with a brush of butter at the end. It´s basically the KAF recipe (they are my go-to for baking ideas now  ), though I put a little butter in the dough, too. Just a little.

Lunch will be a pizza pretzel!

Miss, that is a zulu king cake from Ambrosia Bakery in Baton Rouge.

Is good.

Especially when they're still warm...

Well, I´m just not a fan of cream cheese, but otherwise I guess that would look pretty good.

Pretzels turned out. . .GREAT.

Opti, the KAF recipe I used involved a two-minute bath in the baking soda water solution, so you are correct about giving them the extra time. Yours look terrific, too! I see some interesting toppings. Tell me what you used for them.

Oh wow, two minutes! I think I will keep mine in the bath longer next time, then.

Toppings are just a thick salt for the one variety, and cinnammon/sugar for the other. Both with butter brush. One pretzel I made into a "pizza pretzel" for lunch, with cheese and tomato sauce :)

Oh, don't worry. After enough beer, you won't even mind the lederhosen. You might even like them in August. :lol2:

Ma'am, I think Ambrosia owns the trademark rights to the name, so a recipe might be a bit difficult to come by.

Being a good baker, the only thing I can suggest is reading through some Ambrosia's links, getting an idea for what they're doing, and experiement starting with a basic king cake dough( don't forget to braid the trinity :) )

The Zulu King Cake is the most decadent, chocolate-lover type king cake I know, but different bakeries do offer variations on the standard. The best standards ones I know of, come from Haydel's and from Nonna Randazzo's.

Right now, the Picayune is holding a contest for the best of New Orleans:
