A Makarov is a bit small caliber for size, but A) I own one and B) You could drop-kick the thing off a cliff and it would still work.

Wonder how fast you can get the shirt out of the way and draw?

I have a Makarov as well. I got it chambered for .380 because 9 mm Browning was not so available then. Things have changed.

Tucker Gun Leather also, I believe, has some very similar holsters.

Okay, I have to share. I mentioned this thread to a friend that has a concealed carry permit and he told me how he had to quit carrying his Glock in front because:

I would also think that the small of the back would be best for pulling up the shirt with one hand while drawing with the other, unless it was a cross draw - and I'd prefer to have a perp, that I was facing, wonder what I was doing behind my back rather than seeing me pull my shirt up and expose a gun on my side.

I do like small-of-back carry. More comfortable sitting, and less likely to print (just have to remember to bend with your legs).

All depends on how you're built and how flexible you are.

Many years ago, Bianchi did a shoot for Guns & Ammo, where he concealed the maximum number of handguns on his person, while wearing formal dinner attire...none showed at any normal viewing angle.

He successfully concealed 32 handguns, including a full size 1911 and a S&W Model 29.

The 1911 I can see - it's a very slim frame, and actually a great CC companion.

The 29 however is amazing.

I sold my model 29 a few years back because it was almost too big just to *have* I can't even imagine opting to carry it, nor can I imagine carrying it legally (i.e. no printing).

KB - what does 'printing' mean in this context?

Wish I could find the picture, I had the mag forever. Bianchi was dressed in a white jacket with tuxedo pants. IIRC, the weight of the guns and mags approached 100 lbs.

jon:
In States that allow CCW (Carrying a Concealed Weapon), part of the definition of "concealed" is that the weapon doesn't print - or outline itself - against clothing.

So if I holster a gun to carry concealed, and tuck my shirt around it, but the grip of the gun is plainly visible when I bend over either through my shirt, or my jacket, I'm in violation of the law, because I'm not carrying "concealed."

In other words - you're only concealed if nobody ever realizes it's there.
Printing is simply the word used to describe the visible outline of the weapon underneath clothing.

If you holster in the small of your back, you have to bend at the legs, rather than bending at the waist, because the weapon will print and be obvious - etc.

Ah, I didn't realize that concealed carry meant 'don't make it visible'. I thought it meant you were allowed to have it not visible.

In fact, in many places "Open" carry is fully legal without licensure or permit ..... until someone feels threatened by it.

Many states (like Colorado) consider your car to be an extension of your home, so you can "open carry" a loaded weapon on your passenger seat just as you could sit one on the couch next to you.
The devil of course is in the details, as it's not very likely that the officer pulling you over for speeding will not feel threatened by such a situation. You'll likely get forcibly removed from the vehicle and treated as a criminal, even if you've not technically broken a law.

Same with carrying a six-shooter like a cowboy down the street. In lots of places it's legal - but not a good idea, as it's a felony if you lose a case brought against you.

So making it concealed means you *have* to ensure that nobody can see it or feel threatened by it.
Similarly - you can't just pull the thing out because someone starts talking trash to you or pushes you down to the ground.
You can only brandish if you fear for your life or someone else's and you better be able to make the case why.

You can open carry in Louisiana anywhere outside an incorporated town or city. As with most things, it just depends where you are. Around here, it's considered bad manners to walk into the country store with your hog leg strapped on, while a couple of rifles in the truck gun rack wouldn't even warrant a passing glance.

OTOH, back up in Madison Parish where we had a camp for many years, I'd pack a 6" barreled .357 in a side holster almost everywhere I went. I never had anybody say a word about it.

In CO you can open carry long guns in an automobile, but not loaded.
Hand guns though, you can open carry, loaded.

Never understood the desire to carry a gun that isn't loaded, or doesn't have one in the chamber. Carry a baton... :)

I think I'd like LA Jolly.
I was shopping holsters today - I found the Fist company, and they do some really nice custom stuff. Still trying to figure out if I want IWB or OWB.
I'm concerned about printing when not wearing a jacket.

While I much prefer shooting this guy:

I think it might be too heavy/uncomfortable to carry reliably, so I'm most likely looking for a holster for this guy:

If the size difference isn't obvious, I can't even get my pinky onto the end of the magazine (well, I barely can) on the Taurus Millennium.

Any suggestions?
