This was Apple's vision of "the Knowledge Navigator"

Note, the touch interface, speech recognition, the "agent's" access to data, conversational interaction, etc.

Remember, this is before the Web, almost before the internet - in 1987.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

The most interesting tech-related question for me at the moment is how do we make e-mail useful again.

When we were in London, my friend whose international company tracks and reports on tech trends told me that some major corporations are abandoning e-mail entirely, and that younger people often don't use it at all with IM's, Twitter and FB, and mused that e-mail may go the way of snail mail.

e-mail may go the way of snail mail.

Yes, communication is getting faster and more personal.

I can imagine a day when you will actually be able to talk in real time to people far away.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Getting 150 IM's a day won't be an improvement. The problem for me isn't the method of delivery, but the mind-set that I'm actually interested in being cc'd with all this crap, or that by sending it to me they're actually achieving something (i.e. covering their asses).

It seems to me that since e-mail, people are more reluctant to make their own decisions than they used to be, since it's so easy to ask someone else to make it for them.

My kids hate email.

It's days are definitely numbered.

Is it Its or It's?

I hate typing and grammar.

The other problem with text is that it doesn't communicate anywhere nearly as effectively as speech, or personal contact. It so much easier to send, so that's what people do.
