Can You Develop Huge Muscles Without Taking Illegal Steroids?; Today's Athletes

When I see professional bodybuilders, WWE wrestlers, and many NFL players rip-roaring with bulging muscles, I often wonder if it's possible to get as muscular as these athletes are without taking steroids.

Better nutrition and better supplements are part of why today's pro athletes are bigger than they were decades ago. But to get as big as these guys are without steroids? Who doesn't have doubts?

What's the point in becoming the best athlete in a sport if you cheated (by taking steroids) to become that good?

There are plenty of ripped Mr. Universe winners through the ages without aid of steroid use.

Statues from the ancients lead me to believe you can get pretty ripped without steroids.

They have strictly drug test bodybuilding contests. The guys who compete in those leagues are way smaller than the mr olympias.

Olympia or Arnold Classic etc doesn't test. All the contestants juice.

Yeah, but now they are finding out that marble is not much better for your system than steroids.

LOL Kenny.

Horace: Granted - there was a lot of juicing amongst former Mr. Olympias. I'm no authority on the subject (one of only a handful), so I'm sure some of the Schwarzeneggers and Ferrignos were juicing - but I still think guys like Wieder were possibly clean.

Mark Knopfler uses steroids.
That's rather coincidental. I was just talking to someone earlier this week about a new album this power metal band's coming out with. Someone asked me what the guitar playing was like, and I said like Mark Knopfler on steroids.

('nother random Knopfler story: while tooling around D.C. on 3Jane one night, I was going through an intersection with a temporary break in the wind, so I could hear in front of me these two guys talking. I only heard about 2 seconds of conversation, but the guy said, "yeah you know the guy, what's his name, Dire Straits guy..." He was turned away from me and standing by the road. When I went by I yelled out "Mark Knopfler!" right beside him, then kept going and made a left turn. I always wonder if he was able to turn around quick enough to see who said it, but I seriously doubt it.)

That is awesome. :)
Those moments are so priceless.

I remember listening to Roll the Bones by Rush, and rolling through an intersection by Pearl St. Mall here in Boulder.
At the time I had a jeep, and all summer of course I rocked it out with no roof/doors. I'm sure I was blaring this way too loud, but it was near last call (2:00 am), so who cared right?

I stop at a red light, and turn around to see a guy in the street serenading me - singing the lyrics to the song I'm listening to.
He had a thick accent, and was clearly one of the many Indian students at CU.

I loved that there was some Indian guy in Boulder who loved Rush so much that he would walk into the middle of the street and sing the lyrics to the song that some random jeep passing by was blaring.

Fantastic!

Another one:

(I realize we may be derailing the thread here, but this is TNCR. Derailments are de rigueur!)

I, uh, know a handful of people who work at Renn Faire back home. One of them is a bald, black guy named Edward who has an eye patch that is not a part of his costume.

He has two tattoos on either bicep: a dark isz, and a light one. When I first met him, I saw his arm first. I smiled and said, "I wish it was time for Cheers, but it's not."

He of course said, "it's time for vengence!"

Freaking great. That was such a great comic.

Sure, it's possible to get a Joe Wieder body without juicing. But the fact that someone compared greek statues to a typical Mr Olympia is pretty good evidence that any cut (so to speak) physique looks like any other to most people.

The degree to which Ronnie Coleman dwarfs David (of statue fame) might not be obvious unless they were viewed side by side.

The juicing among pro body builders is not a secret, and there is no pretense otherwise as far as I know.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I can see why people love to take steroids. They make you feel great. Arthritis? Hah! Arthur and all his 'itis' brothers take a hike. Energy level? Up! Attitude? Can do!! :thumb:

If I could get enough of the stuff for the next summer, and if there weren't the side effects, I could paint the whole darn house, all three storeys. :lol2:
