HOLY CARP!!!
Anybody know how that 5'10" Charles Walter piano ever turned out? I think Del Fandrich was involved in the design and he seemed excited about it. But the delays outlasted my fascination with new pianos and my curiosity was never sated.

Just checked the website and they're still only showing their 6'4 grand.

Finally
I played the 5'10" CW back in 2006 or so. It struck me as being a very precise instrument. A bit to bright for my taste, but I could see the quality in it.

If I had the money, I'd have bought one, hands down.

Gitz in Lafayette had a 6'4" that had been voiced by the same guy who does ULL and LSU's work...that was one damn fine piano...hope it found a good home.

Thanks guys.

It's amazing to me that companies like that can't even be bothered to update their websites for their new products.

Try to get a 7' piano.
I think that's a sweet spot.
Yup.

If I was in the 35K market, a new 7 footer would be all I would even look at. 7 footers and up are the only pianos that produce the proper bass needed. Although Mason Hamlin's do a decent job of producing bass for their size.

Patty, for the level of piano you are looking for, it's well worth some traveling. A weekend trip to NY, Chicago, LA, or other city where you can have a larger selection of brands and models is well worth your time and the money for the trip. That being said, while not limiting your selection, try within all means possible to deal with a local dealer for service and support.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

You're also doing yourself a disservice by not considering a Yamaha S6 or a C7.

A Petrof II kicks both their asses and probably costs less to boot.

It also kicks Charlie Parker and Miles Davis's asses as well!

I'm not up on pricing as I used to be, but yes, I think so.

And when you compare that piano to a Baldwin R, and see what Baldwin wants for a new one, I'd suggest $21K for a CW becomes downright smokin'....

I have heard good things about CW but unfortunately have never had the chance to hear one.

If what George states is true, it would plain disqualify them if I was hunting with 35K to burn.

To be honest, I have not stayed up on pianos for a couple of years. And pay no mind to the "suggested retail price" link in the Petrof pages. Total fantasy.

But if I had the room, and I don't unfortunately, thus why I sold a C7 years ago, I'd only look at 6'11" and up for a real piano sound.

I don't know if that's what's right for you though Patty. A seven footer in the house can make alot of husbands jealous.

I like your list very much.

So much will depend on your preference for an action and tone. You have plenty of time to shop and can delightfully say to the salespeople.. i have plenty of time before buying to keep my options open.

I'd stick to high end pianos.. Pearl Rivers and Prambergers ain't worth the time.
it behooves me to behold

Mik, it's understandable to not like it when what you selected gets excluded, but while people may be equal but pianos are not.

I've visited with apple and I can testify that she is a very advanced pianist.
Not all pianos are equal when it comes to delivering the goods for such a pianist.

Sure, at every price point there are better and worse values for the money and Pramberber may be a good value at its price point.
On the other hand we all know spending a lot is no guarantee of a piano that's worth that much.

But in this case the budget allows a better piano and I wouldn't take that as any slight against Pramberger.

The only time I have a problem with a Pramberger is when some puffed up narcissistic piano dealer who couldn't find his ass with both hands and a map starts telling everyone he's a world authority and compares them to tier one pianos..

Otherwise, it compares just fine with the better Asian pianos.
