Speaking of Canadian Pride, the first time we went shopping in Toronto, we parked in this grungy little parking lot, turned the corner and I find myself outside a rather dirty and unimpressive red brick building. I look at the sign and it says 'Massey Hall' - home to a very famous jazz concert in the 1950s with Parker and Gillespie. I had to be restrained from getting down on my knees. |

Even John Lennon was a better drummer than Beethoven. Beethoven sucked at drumming - and he hummed louder than Gould. |

I'm sure his humming was less annoying than Geddy Lee's singing. |

Although - a deaf person humming can certainly rival Geddy's screeching. Geddy's screeching at least is in context. |

Manu Chao - a couple examples.. Bongo Bong and clandestino I like him as much as Gaga, Corelli, Johnny Cash, the Judds, the Beatles and Bach... from wiki .... "Manu Chao (born José-Manuel Thomas Arthur Chao on June 21, 1961), is a French singer of Spanish roots (Basque and Galician). He sings in French, Spanish, English, Italian, Galician, Arabic and Portuguese and occasionally in other languages. Chao began his musical career in Paris, busking and playing with groups such as Hot Pants and Los Carayos, which combined a variety of languages and musical styles. With friends and his brother Antoine Chao, he founded the band Mano Negra in 1987, achieving considerable success, particularly in Europe. He became a solo artist after its breakup in 1995, and since then tours regularly with his live band, Radio Bemba" if you want to sing along in Spanish.. Typical TNCR Thread: 1) Amy Winehouse has talent - too bad drugs messed her up. 2) Gaga is OK too 3) Gaga is amplified crap without musicians 4) Where are the great musicians? 5) Prog Rock / Country (insert D'Oh comment here) 6) Jazz is where the musicians are 7) Jazz goes back long ways 8) All music is good / no it's not (insert Kenny picture here) 9) Tastes vary 10) Back to Jazz (insert D'Oh comment here) 11) Aqua pontificates 12) Kenny talks about equality 13) Drummers compared (JBryan quips) 14) More jazz talk (JBryan quips) 15) KlavierBauer and Spelvin disagree on drummers (again) (insert D'Oh comment here) (JBryan quips) 16) What's good for cleaning house? 17) Khachatruian Gayane clip. |

It's the circle of TNCR, George, completed by this BBC radio 3 programme playlist from July 25. It contains another bit from Khachaturian's Gayane, and..... Winehouse singing There Is No Greater Love. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b012r9qj Wasn't that easy? |

Early or late? Thin Lizzy was a very interesting band until they went commercial. i/e/ before Jailbreak, etc. Their first album we bought as a cutout and loved it. But George and the Destroyers are too much fun. The essence of garage bands. Saw them in a small club in Dayton, and they made a video in my favorite dive bar in Cincinnati, Cory's. It was this great place with all the old blues musicians from the area. Then all these pale white kids discovered this new music, 'the blues'. Ruined the bar. |
