Around here (NW Indiana) they are building clinics and outpatient places on every corner. There is construction everywhere -- all healthcare related. The Catholics have built mini-hospitals in places surrounded (still) by cornfields -- all completed within the last three years or so -- with the new stuff still going up. Billboards featuring who is practicing where -- IU taking over -- looks like Obamacare is going to be a cash cow around here. |

Your state's population is growing by one medium sized city per year. That does make a difference. |

I don't know of any hospital that is hiring nurses at that clip...not in Shreveport, Monroe, Alexandria, Baton Rouge or Lafayette. I would also dispute their salary figure vs. this state. RNs make somewhere in the 50's down here. Their teacher salaries were also way off. |

Outpatient medicine is the new paradigm. And yes, that's happening down here. I'm not convinced that it is better for the patient, though. I know it does make more money, due to reimbursement rates. The way parts of the healthcare bill is written, one can receive more money to see a pedi OP with a NP, than with a prediatrician. |

I believe the continued pressure in the bill to keep payments level or decrease them, will lead to a further insolvency of small practices. I believe provisions within the bill will continue to favor outpatient care, perceiving it as less expensive, thereby robbing larger institutions of dollars and therefore medical synergy. I believe that parts of the bill which put the breaks on money for medical devices will both drive down the numbers of Americans receiving such devices, along with those companies which make artificial knees, hips, etc, employing less people. |
