Article:

Quote:

... The conservative Newsmax magazine told the New York Times that it has teamed up with Trump — America's most famous birther/maybe-candidate — to moderate a Republican debate in Des Moines, Iowa on Dec. 27. The debate will air on the Ion cable network. It's not clear how many candidates have agreed to fit the new session into their already-clogged debate schedules.

On Thursday, he told MSNBC's Tamron Hall, "I will probably be endorsing someone right after the debates." He said that if that person gets the nomination, he would be satisfied to see how that person does. He added that he might consider running as an independent if the nominee turns out to be someone else who he doesn't think can win, but that he is not particularly interested in running. ...

Of course he will, seeing that he's going to fire the others during the course of debate.

Don't be surprised if he ends up having to endorse himself.

Jonah Goldberg's take:

The GOP field already has a sitcom-ish feel given all of the troubles of late. What on earth are these people thinking inviting Trump to participate. Was Hulk Hogan not available?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Honestly, I can't see any of the respectable candidates doing this. Bachman probably shows up, and maybe Santorum. Then they'll cancel. I can't see any party bigwigs wanting it to happen either. More because of Newsmax than Trump.

In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Yep. It becomes a (bigger) circus.

Saw a report that says Huntsman's campaign has said that he won't play there. (on iPad, too lazy to link.)

Paul declined too.

Gingrich however said he'd be there.

Imagine that, presidential debates as circus.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I don't get it. This just shows that objectivity in analyzing the debates was no less elusive then as now. Doesn't speak much at all to the actual structure of the Lincoln-Douglas debates.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Personally, I very much wish that Donald Trump had been around to moderate the Lincoln Douglas debates. The main reason I'd have liked that is that today he'd be safely underground.

Heh. Although NRO says Bachman may have changed her mind already.
