h/t Gryphon Tea Party to sue city of Richmond over OWS The Richmond tea party is demanding a refund of about $10,000 from the city, claiming it unfairly charged them for rallies while allowing the Occupy protesters to use the same space for several weeks for free. The political organization is sending the city an invoice for the charges incurred for three rallies held in Kanawha Plaza over the past three years. The Occupy protesters have been camped in the plaza since Oct. 15. Richmond Tea Party spokeswoman Colleen Owens says it’s not fair that her group had to pay fees for permits, portable toilets, police presence and emergency personnel. The group also had to purchase a $1 million insurance policy. http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/850c772fd9004fc5ac0585aef836fefb/VA--Tea-Party-Occupy-Protests/ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The "Occupyers" are camped out by the Mayor's home: http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/virginia-politics/2011/nov/16/2/tdmet01-occupy-richmond-protesters-camp-near-jones-ar-1462315/ The police are continuing to monitor the area as of two weeks ago. Well, yesterday the Richmond Tea Party received notification that they're being audited: ![]() I'm sure it has nothing to do with their complaint about "Occupy." The city is surely just trying to be thorough. Right? |

Big difference between an organized rally in a place that requires permits for such events and a spontaneous protest. Anyway, why shouldn't they be audited when they're demanding a 10K refund? |

OWS can hardly be called spontaneous. This was about as orchestrated as a thing could be. |

Not really. Read the article I posted a few minutes ago. Two guys came up with the idea and spread it. They never dreamed it would become what it became. |

One or two guys came up with virtually every idea ever hatched. That does not make the implementation of them spontaneous. |
