Many years ago I went back into the retail piano business for a short time. I worked in a store in Trenton, NJ. One afternoon while in the store alone, Svetlana and a woman friend (translator) came in. She was living in Princeton, and just left Peters. She told me they had been living in a comune and it was like Russia. They asked me to please not "broadcast" that she was around. She was trying to distance herself from reporters. I sold her a Steinway "M", and arraigned for financing. As I walked her to the door there was a Steinway "K" standing there. She spoke in Russian to her friend. The translation was "In my fathers home there were eight like this." I wondered what eight poor souls he murdered for them. |
