I was out in Texas near very large wind farms all September. I flew low over them in and out every week. I was struck by the fact that quite a few of them were never spinning, probably 1/3, while others were in continuous operation. Given the wind in West Texas really never stops, it would seem to support Jolly's article.

So, do you have anything credible to refute it or are you just trying to impeach the original assertion because you don't like it?

They kill over a thousand raptors in California annually, including golden eagles and other protected species. Across the country that number is more like 40,000 to 70,000. Offshore, the noise affects whales' ability to communicate and navigate. The folks that want to stop the pipeline from Canada evidently have no problem with that.

o

otoh lots of human built structures and practices impact wildlife big time.

and "fossil-fueled power stations are responsible for about 5.2 fatalities per GWh as opposed to 0.3 to 0.4 fatalities per gigawatt-hour GWh" for turbines.. lifted from wiki. touche or ouche - not that wikipedia is a standard of accuracy.

so.. lots of things to consider. I suppose this is yet another political issue?

Do you have anything intelligent to offer or do you, like Steve, merely wish to cast doubt on someone else's information because you don't care for what it says? Do you have a better explanation for what I saw than what was in Jolly's article?
