Sports Show Callers Are Often Quick Conclusional Thinkers

Sports talk shows drive me nuts sometimes.

As a big fan of the New England Patriots, I listen to these shows on the radio.

What gets me the most are callers who feel the Pats will win the Super Bowl when they win a regular-season game. Then if they lose the next week, so many of these callers will then say that they won't even make the playoffs.

I'm not just talking about this season. Over the last decade in which the Patriots have been a dynasty, these fans get too excited after a victory and give up when they lose.

The average IQ in our little New England town drops every other Sunday - as you might imagine, that's no mean feat.

Imagine being a Redskins fan.

No seriously...as a Steelers fan, I have to imagine how much it sucks to be a Redskins fan. Often I turn off the radio since it's CONSTANT Redskins/QB controversy talk, that gets old quickly.

And like you said...when the Redskins started out 3-1 (almost 4-0), there was so much talk of "this is the year!" and now they've lost 5 straight, so you can imagine all of the "fire the coach!" talk now.

To continue the tangent....the Steelers have had THREE head coaches since the 70's. The Redskins have had 13 head coaches in that time, and 7 in the last 15 years I think. The Redskins could take a play out of the Steelers' playbook, when it comes to the need for consistency.

They've been spoiled. Enjoy. You should live in Cincinnati.

Yea... that must REALLY suck. :D
Identifying narcissists isn't difficult. Just look for the person who is constantly fishing for compliments
and admiration while breaking down over even the slightest bit of criticism.

We have the freedom to choose our actions, but we do not get to choose our consequences.

At least they're consistent.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

The Cubbies are so cute.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

I've actually come to enjoy their pain, and can't wait to turn on the radio in the morning. For years, I hated the fact that every single flippin sports radio station (and even some non-sports radio stations) gets pre-empted all day Sunday and Monday for Redskin pre-game and post-game shows, with four different frequencies actuall broadcasting the exact same shows, and there is no national coverage available at all. It pissed me off to know end. I almost sprung for Sirius just for that reason. But then one monday morning, while cursing at the radio station for pre-empting Mike & Mike, something amazing happened. A smile formed while listening to all of the woe is me talk and I began to enjoy the suffering.

At the beginning of the season, I was cheering on the Redskins just because I knew a collapse would come, and it would be so delicious.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

Sometimes I don't tune in to sports shows because I'm not always in the mood to hear two sports show hosts argue with a lot of the callers.

And some hosts talk down to the callers. Granted, there are callers who talk like fools and deserve being talked down to. But some callers are intelligent who make good points. Yet many New England sports show hosts talk down to them anyway, which is uncalled for.

If Tom Brady has just a couple of games in a row where he's doesn't play quite to the best of his ability, callers will start to say that maybe Brady's best days are behind him. Some sports reporters will think the same.

Brady will then respond by playing like his own self again by throwing one touchdown after the next.

If Brady was having a lot of games in a row in which he wasn't performing, that's one thing. But it's irritating when people start to conclude too quickly that his best days are over since they're are no QB's in the NFL that play at a very high level every single game in their career. So these "expert" fans and reporters should give it a rest!

Sports reporters also lose credibility with me when they make predictions before the season has even started as to who they say will make it to the Super Bowl and who will win that game as well.

Predicting the upcoming week's games is fine. But these reporters pretending that they have a crystal ball by confidently making predictions that far ahead is foolish.
