So far I got four slightly overage girls in mildly slutty costumes. But they were nice and very polite. Then I got a pretty cool 5 year old Captain America (shield and all) and a zombie.

Nothin' today (I live in a condo, remember?). When I took the dog out for his afternoon constitutional, there were two cops at the corner. They commented on how quiet it is today. It's 5:30 here, and the trick or treating is over at 7 PM.

Guess the Mrs and I will have to think of something to do with the candy.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

so far a couple more princesses, a devil and a fairy. Pretty slow. I hope we get enough kids to take all this stuff.

My piano is just a few feet from the front door and I can watch kids coming up the walk from the bench. I like to play Bach's Toccatta in D Minor as approach.

Sounds like any other Monday night.

We have no calls. We also have no power, no heating, no light, and a massive amount of candy. I'm not sure I'll survive the evening.

In other words, freezing in the dark. Any idea when services are to be restored?

Hopefully tomorrow - they restored the town centre today. Thankfully it's quite a bit warmer today and we've got an invite to stay at friends later. Twice in three bloody months is a bit much, and there's no way I'm having a cold shower this time.

John, I have been gone a bit. What is going on there that you have no heat or power? That must be hard with the kids and all. Are the schools open?

We had a very early winter storm, with very dense snow, or really slush. Because there are still leaves on the trees lots of branches came down, leaving a lot of people without power. Where I am it left a bigger mess than the hurricane, and we only had about 3 inches of snow. Schools are closed, but my office is open - the next town didn't get nearly as hard as there aren't as many trees.

Aha, the weight of a super wet snow can be amazing. When branches are breaking, you know it was a heavy one.

Please tell me you at least have your scotch to get you through this!

Iron Man, Green Lanterns, lots of Star Wars, and a zombie.

Mik --

It says you started the thread at 2:12 PM. Is that when the trick or treat started in your neighborhood?

Saw quite a few gangsters, suits and hats, guns. Lots of bloody zombie types, lots of cute little bumble bees and bunnies, and a group of teens dressed up as old people. :lol2:

Best costume of the night was a jellyfish. Girl carried a clear plastic umbrella with a couple of strings of little lights, and she was wearing black pants with a stripe of lights glued/sewn on each leg. Looked awesome walking down the road in the dark. The lights on her legs bounced around as she walked, it was so cool.

We figure we had about 450 kids tonight. An awesome night.

I'll have my Halloween on Friday, I suppose, when I can watch a scary movie on public access.

You in my neighborhood? One of my neighbor's 5 year old dressed exactly like that last evening, best costume!

Got a Luigi (from Mario), various Disney and vampire princesses, various insects, arachnids, animals, fairies, ghouls, Harry Potter and assorted wizards, firefighters, policemen (one of whom look like a Chinese Communist, figure his police costume would be Chinese import). Also kids dressed simply as themselves. Nothing "slutty" ... probably because it was too cold, or my neighborhood too prudish.

We had 35 kids, this neighborhood peaked about 15 years ago with maybe 80 kids on a busy Halloween.

I missed the whole thing I was teaching a class at the airport.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy
