Depending on what my mechanic tells me Monday, I may have to spring for a new set of wheels.

Got any favorites in a full-sized half-ton?

My favorite for it's design and specs is the Dodge - but reliability has to be factored in. Dodge is the only one with coil springs at all corners, so it rides much better when empty. I rented one a few months ago and liked it a lot. Chevy/GMC has the oldest design but has very good engine technology - some are rated for 20 mpg in the city I think.

But, if you want new... I really tried to like the Tundra, but did not. A full size that feels smaller. Titan was the same way.

It won't be Ford. Not this year.

I never buy new engine technology and most of Ford's engines came out last year.

Well, your choices are Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. You said no Ford this time, so that leaves Chevy and Dodge. Hard choice, because I like them both - but then, I would have chosen the Ford.

So....if I had to choose between the Chevy and the Dodge, I think I'd choose the Chevy.

I'll look at the Tundra and see what I think. The Titan? It has a reputation for poor gas mileage and by the 2014 year model they are supposed to be made by Dodge.

The Ford ecoboost stuff scares me. To get the power and gas mileage out of their V6 - which is the mpg of a six with the power of a V8 - you have to hang two blowers on the motor.

Ford F-150 V6's have a history of blowing head gaskets. I don't know that adding the psi boost of a turbo is going to help matters.

Jolly, my Chevy 3/4 ton has kept me rolling down the road since 1991. I loves me a Chevy truck. :sombrero:

Too bad you don't need a bigger truck.

My Ford V-10s have been remarkably reliable.

I was disappointed that no one was making a 1/2 ton diesel when I last checked. If you wanted diesel you had to get the "2500" size trucks.

That said, it is pretty amazing how much the current trucks can haul, I think the Chevy 1500 has a payload not far from a full ton.

After being a GMC guy for a couple of trucks, when I wanted a new truck back in 2005 I was planning on a new Sierra. I decided to drive every 1/2 ton though before buying anything and once I drove the Tundra I was hooked. The quality rep of the Tundra was so good that I didn't even spring for the 100K mile warranty. I'm rolling at about 98K miles right now, and have never had any trouble. None.

BUT, I don't like the looks of the new Tundra so if I were to trade I don't know if I'd get another Tundra or go back to the Sierra. Or maybe find something else.

Caveat: We haul around a few horses a few times a year, and of course haul the normal household crap, a bit of wood now and again and so forth. So I'm not really pushing the limits on the truck.

'tis true, as long as you don't load them up very often and pay attention when you do.

it's all fun and games until you try to stop...

Mmm hmmmm. I likes me a 3/4 ton truck. Example being the load I had on it today of hubby's hardware sale buys. She settled in just fine, but it was a LOAD.

I'd be mighty hard on a lil' ol' half-tonner. :lol2:
