We just had dinner from the fresh pasties. :thumb:

The filling was extra tasty with the addition of the herbs, etc. I like an egg wash on the crust to make it get a lovely brown during baking. It makes them purty.

I had extra dough, even after making the pasties and six turkey pot pies, so I made some apple handpies. They are shaped just like the pasties, but I put apple pie filling inside, with a milk wash on the outer crust and some chunky sugar sparkles for crunch on the crust. We'll have those with tea later.

To recap:
31 beef pasties
6 turkey pot pies
3 large apple handpies
1 tired momma

:lol2:

I haven't had a decent pasty since I left England.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Ok, I made them for dinner. My presentation is lacking, but the dough recipe you shared worked perfectly. (I was asking about the dough, not the filling) I cooked up some onion, garlic, rutabaga, celery, carrot, spices and ground beef - added some beef broth and OXO beef cubes)

I put the flour, salt and butter chunks in the food processor, zoomed it up, then added the ice water till I could form it into a ball, stuck it in the fridge. Made the mistake of adding the filling warm (makes it harder to shape) and not putting them on parchment (makes it impossible to move them around on the tray) and didn't put an egg wash on (makes them not as pretty), plus I put too much filling, so they went sort of "rustic" (gourmet term for sloppy :lol2: ) on me. But boy were they yummy.

So next time, I'll figure out how to make them look nicer so I can freeze some... I took a picture, I'll share later.

Good for you, Jodi! Glad you tried it. It really doesn't matter what they look like, as long as they are tasty.
