The office this afternoon

I was supposed to fly with a student to Charlottesville this afternoon, but it looked like some thunder storms might be building.

So we decided to just go over to New Market instead, but we got halfway there and the haze was so thick we just headed back to Leesburg.

I had my camera thinking I might get some interesting flood pictures, but didn't see too much.

We did fly over part of the 9/11 story that you won't hear much about tomorrow - Mount Weather. This is where many Congressmen and Senators spent 9/11/01 at the Emergency Operations Center. This is where the government goes to hide.

I remember seeing helicopter traffic all day on 9/11 going back and forth from DC to Mt. Weather.

It was a secret location until a TWA jet crashed into it in 1974 and the crash site investigators and first responders started wondering why all these cars and buildings were in the middle of nowhere. It has grown quite a bit since 2001.

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

The canopy gives you nice visibility. I opened the window to take the pictures, but didn't realize the bottom of the window was blocking the view.

Speaking of "at the office". I'm on backup today, and we had a full, full schedule - 8 cases in 2 rooms. When you're on backup, if the schedule's booked on Saturday, you work.

My first case was scheduled for 8 AM.

The guy who had cases showed up at 9.

I was pissed - really pissed. No music, no conversation, NOTHING in the OR today.

"George, you're very quiet today."

"I have a long day, and I'm *not* on call."

Toward the end of the day, one of the nurses says to this surgeon, "I see you have a case 2 weeks from today. You're starting at 10."

So, I say, "It's OK, we started at 9 today...." :veryangry:
