Shame he didn't show up down here. He wouldn't have been asked to leave...he would have been the center of attention.... http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/upshot/al-jazeera-journalist-not-allowed-film-texas-high-164258433.html |

From what I've seen of the Al Jazeera web-site, they do a better job of reporting the news than a lot of the mainstream media. |

Maybe not if you'd come over to the Dark Side and watch your news on Fox News. |

Don't confuse their opinion programming with their news programming. From a sheer news standpoint, they are as good as anybody else. |

ZOOOOOM!

I just see no truth to that statement at all. There is no question whatever about how Fox wants you to feel about every single one of its news stories. "We report, you decide" is a sham. |

I would also say that Al Jazeera is from what limited experience I've had, a top-notch news network. Reading the comments section of the above story, it's clear that based on the name, people confuse Al Jazeera with Al Quaeda or something similar. People assumed that because it was "Al Jazeera" it was a muslim organization, rather than an arab one, aiming simply to provide news coverage in Arabic. It's essentially the NBC of Qatar, and people think it's a terrorist organization. Now - to be fair, the Superintendent in the above story was totally on-target with not letting the reporter film/interview students and their families there, as that would indeed be a violation of their rights under FERPA. It's also clear from the Superintendent's response to the journalist, that there is a bit more to the story with regards to their "confrontation" that particular evening at the football game. While I don't hold that the reporter should be driven out of town because he's with Al Jazeera (any more than he should be for being a reporter with Fox, NBC, ABC, NPR, or any other organization), it is clear that the reporter makes himself sound extremely innocent, when there is definitely more to the story. Do I think he's innocent and had good intentions? For the most part, yes. I think there was also more to the exchange as well, and I think the Superintendent likely isn't the ogre he's being made out to be. Should other folks give Al Jazeera a chance as a news organization? Yes, definitely. Don't forget, they were the *ONLY* media outlet to follow the war in Afghanistan live after 9/11 - they're not some fringe organization seeking to convert the world with the sword (unless you live in TX). |

No thanks. I'll stick with the Beeb. It's way higher quality, and they aren't associated with an organisation that hacks murdered girls cell-phones. |

Watch NBC. Then tell me they aren't masters at twisting the news compared to Fox. |

I don't know if I can think of a news network where that isn't true. Sometimes the high school sports in the Washington Post can be pretty neutral, not always. Other than that it's pretty clear how most news sources want you to feel. |

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy | |
