On Meet the Press today, Congresswoman Maxine Waters called for President Obama to take a more forceful approach to a jobs program, and likely made Republicans drop their jaws with the amount of money she argued the United States should invest in such a plan.

David Gregory asked Waters if it would be possible for the president to take on an ambitious role in working on job creation in Congress, given the recent partisan fights over the debt ceiling. Waters put the impetus on Obama to take the first step.

"The president must be bold. I agree that he must have a jobs program, he must create jobs. I'm talking about a jobs program of a trillion dollars or more. We've got to put Americans to work. That's the only way to revitalize this economy. When people work, they earn money, they spend that money, and that's what gets the economy up and going."

Why is it that every time a liberal has a plan, it involves spending money they don't have?

It is an article of faith held by liberal Democrats that a slow economy requires massive government intervention when, in fact, the opposite is true. The only thing government can really grow is more government.

1. What do you mean "we" (not "they," it's "We the People," not "They the People") don't have the money? As long as "we" produce more than what our government spends (GDP ex government spending is greater than government spending), "we" have the money. It's simple math, simple concept. It's just matter of whether we want our government to spend 10%, 50%, or 90% of what we produce.

May be you just want to say "spending more than what the government collects"? In that case,

2. Every Congress and every administration that have ever produced and signed onto a budget with a deficit by definition spent more than they collected, and ALL of them have done so since Ronald Reagan -- EXCEPT when Bill Clinton was President when the government took in more than it spent,it had a surplus! You can decide whether to classify Bill Clinton as a liberal.

And look where it has gotten us - $14 trillion in the hole.

Just because it's ALWAYS been that way, we should continue it?

Belt tightening is a bitch, huh Ax.

I'm at the 10% end, and it's pretty obvious that Ax is at the 90% end.Frankly I'd be quite happy if Ax would contribute 90% of his earnings, so that I could keep 90% of mine. :sombrero:
