3 things:

1) MS, kettle is DA BOMB! :excited:
2) When I was a kid, my dad popped popcorn in a saucepan whenever we'd have a movie night at home. He still does. It smells and tastes DELICIOUS. I plan to keep up the tradition when I have kids.
3) If popcorn is wrong, I don't want to be right!

Popcorn doesn´t really do anything for me. Sorry, Popcorn -- it´s not you, it´s me. Maybe if you were doused in chocolate.

A few years back Santa brought us one of those carnival-style corn poppers -- sits on the counter, spacious, red lid, square-shaped, heat lamp, etc.

When we rent movies the boys run to the basement and pop a bunch and we gather up bowls and are all set.

I go to our health food store and buy corn in their bulk aisle. Much cheaper than Mr. Redinbocker (sp?).

It's a good thing.

Regardless of any food that I consume, healthy or not, I have a simple rule: eat everything in moderation. That way, it decreases the chances that I'll eat too much of one food that isn't good for me, especially since nutritionalists and doctors often find out years later that one type of food worse for you than previously thought.

Ilikemozart asked how I keep so much popcorn fresh, and corrected me on the price with a 50-pound bag costing $29, not $16 at Smart and Final.
So one serving (from 1/2 cup unpopped corn) costs me 13 cents, not 7.

I bought two of these 5-gal paint cans with covers from Home Depot.
Again 50 pounds was about 7 gallons.
I recently finished my old 50-pound bag found out popcorn keeps fresh a long time.

You make me smile!

Okay, thanks for keeping this thread going...oh and when you pop corn today, please take a picture. I am sure others want to see the corn going into the bag that you use.

Kind of like the up to the moment pictures of when you went to Toronado (pushing your luggage up the ramp, into the door etc.)

Today, I went to the dentist...no hidden kernels found. Whew!

Pictures please....

I suppose it was only in those "old days" that it was unsafe to store food in a utility bucket? Something about carcinogens or chemicals contained in the plastic-like material that could leach into stored food.

Is that still a concern these days? Or, are all buckets now made of totally safe materials?

Not to tell kenny what to do, but I use containers that are food grade plastic for storing my flours. Some plastics are not meant for storing food, and some are. Maybe it makes no big difference which kind to use, but I have a kiddo who does not need for me to make a mistake that would affect her later. Kenny is already an old fart, so he can make his own choices of carcinogens. :lol2:

Wow R2, I never knew. An eye opener.
I love popcorn for the salt and butter.
But I swore off it for what Mark said of the glycemic index. Plus, I've periodontal disease and my periodontist and dentist say "no way". So it's no popcorn for me.

Being able to inhale tons of popcorn into advanced age is another reason I'm so glad I've flossed religiously all these years.
I have no deep pockets in my gums so there is no place for the hulls to get stuck.

See, I'm not anti-religion. :P

89, are you still flossing daily like you promised me? :tsktsk:
