HOLY CARP!!!

I always use "grey." I think it looks better, and even sounds different and better (at least in my mind) than "gray." Kind of like the distinction between "hey" and TomK's "hay." How do you spell the word? |

Language requires accepted standards, rules. I use grey for colour; gray is used for names (and tea), and has the underlying meaning of old, ancient. |

If I'm modifying an existing document (or, more likely, source code), I do a search for both and see which, if either, is already used, and use that one. If there is no precedent or if I'm creating a new document, I've caught myself using both spellings. Aesthetically, I think I prefer the E spelling. |
| As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good? | |

ZOOOOOM!

I use grey as well, for similar reasons. The noun's been around since the 1200s; even those who spoke Old Norse and Frisian had similar words for it (grar and gre.) What really kicked "gray" off as another word (used not only as a noun or adjective, but also in phrases like "the gray mare is the better horse" or "graying hair") was the Civil War, when referencing uniform colors. (Thanks, AHD!) |
| I cite irreconcilable differences. | |
