Unless he is in distress and needs military assistance.

I suggest you have the national guard go in and destroy the target..

A good friend lives across the street from him. She is a talented nurse.

When he faked a heart-attack, she hesitated, but only for a second, and ran into his yard to try to help save his life. His pulse was fine; she said he seemed okay (he's heavy, though). Ambulance hauled him off and she learned later that he faked it.

Another neighbor is a cop. He was off-duty when the fake heart attack happened. I think he sorta stayed off the property.

I'm glad I don't have this headache to deal with, but I often wonder what anyone can do, really.

Did I mention that he let a bunch of roosters free one day? To run around the neighborhood and watch everyone freak out, apparently.

I am also surprised -- we have several veterans in the area -- that the upside American flag hasn't created some drama. It hangs front and center in his yard. Maybe it has created drama and I haven't heard about it.

Yeah, sounds like the man has lost some of his marbles. He's not just being a crank, he's beyond that, and beyond what most people are able to handle. So nix the niceness campaign unless some of the adults in the neighborhood are brave enough. If the cop isn't brave enough, that's not a good sign.

Has social services been called for any of this? Is he able to take care of himself? We've had cases like that in our town, and it was a difficult process to get the help that the person needed. It was an elderly woman who allowed trash and junk to build up around her property and inside her home. The neighbors couldn't stand the sight, and rightfully had concerns for rodents.

Flying a flag upside down is illegal.

Not sure about that. It's wrong, and a breach of flag etiquette.

Illegal? Don't think so.

Failing that, I recommend guerilla tactics. Start with repeated applications of the flaming bag of dogcrap.
Something tells me escalation isn't going to be good for anyone's property values. I suspect if anything would work, and it may not, it would be Brenda's approach.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

There was a guy here in Columbus that was doing almost exactly the same things. He claimed he was an artist, and his yard displays and his antics were artistic expression. He got a lot of media attention for a number of years, which I suppose what really what he was after. His yard finally got so cluttered with junk that the Health Department declared the property a health hazard, and the Zoning Commission declared the place a public nuisance. The city came in and cleaned the place up, sent him a bill, and he finally gave in. He started up again a few years later, but he had a heart attack - a real one - and died in his beloved yard, before anything got out of hand. Hope you & your neighbors don't have to wait for your public nuisance to die in order to solve the problem.

Does social services have time for this?
If he's a danger to himself, or cannot take care of himself, then there is a role for Social Services. Whether they will take an active role is another question.

I think the zoning path has been pursued, IT, and come up empty. As I said, it's not in my immediate neighborhood so I don't have a dog in the fight. I just drove by it today and the situation has me thinking.

I think one thing that helps is that he lives on a remote street so no one really sees his displays -- so there is less oxygen to fuel his fire. If his house were on a main drag, I imagine he would get quite a significant amount of attention, and he might escalate his efforts.

The head of the regional ACLU lives in the neighborhood. For what that's worth.

He's pretty young -- in his thirties I would guess. I imagine he'll be around for a while. Other than the fake heart attack, no health issues that I know of. The place is not a cluttered mess that would attract rodents and the like. It's specifically designed to agitate the neighbors.

Fire ants is an interesting suggestion.

yeah that's always a good idea. Pissing off an angry, crazy guy with guns. :lol2:

Why not just let him be? Every neighbourhood has their crazy person. Your kids will give him a wide berth, and it gives everybody something to talk about.
Indeed.

He's daring people to try to stop him - that's all sort of the point. He wants the conflict and any neighbor who just wants peace and higher property values won't get it by confronting the guy in any way. If the gov't won't help, it's impossible to do anything to change the guy.

Well, there's one thing that has a non-zero chance of working: appealing to his humanity. (I wouldn't bet on it though.)

Sealed container.

But where we primarily use fireants is for home use...need a deer skull mount? Flesh it out as best possible, then find the biggest fire ant mound on the place. They'll pick it clean as a whistle.

When mankind finally loses his marbles and engages in total nuclear annhilation, the cockroaches and the fireants will duke it out for world supremacy.
