You know, the more I think about it, the more it becomes an interesting question: Will Lady Gaga be appreciated 50 years from now?

That's why I drew the 1961 comparison. Sure, we remember a lot of artists from then, but how many were really relevant, and how many will endure another 50 years? How many were another Sinatra, Beatles, Joplin, Foster? Is she a flash in the pan? Yep, I think so - when put into the context of the types I just mentioned.

But, is she a Tiny Tim? No way. Tiny Tim capitalized on being a freakazoid performer. Limited (if any) talent with a schtick that no one had ever seen before. If you close your eyes and listen to Gaga, you can hum the tunes (and yeah, they're real melodies!), and you remember them.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

It's pretty early in her career. I'd stay tuned. The woman's got the chops.

she really is a fantastic songwriter.. She is simple now, appealing to the simple minded 'dancers' and those who need a voice of expression. Her melodies are catchy and oh so fun to dance to. .. Nothing extraordinarily special but they are all great! Her lyrics are brilliant if occasionally raunchy.

She sings and dances at the same time.. not so easy.. when she gets older she'll be sitting (soon enough).

I really like the video of her singing 'bad romance' on the de Generist show. enough links for now.
P!nk is the better songwriter, IMO.

And I may be wrong, but I think she may have more longevity than GaGa.

Another side of Tiny Tim's singing

He actually had a fair to middlin' baritone voice.

I'm not a Maddona fan but believe she'll be remembered over Gaga.
I don't think Gaga is that brilliant.

Jolly, I think Pink is totally cool. She's her own person. Has unique talent as an artist. So different, but kind of in the same way as Prince, who is very talented, and very much his own artist. And yes, some of Pink's writing is brilliant. She touches an emotional cord and this is unique among present day artists. But then again, I've a soft spot for artists who can make me cry.

Patsy Cline was brilliant. Ray Charles too. All those Larry mentioned. And yup even I know many of those tunes from 1961.

So how about listing your three favorite Pink songs -- I'll give them a listen -- I know nothing about her.

400,000.000+ you-tube downloads on one song.

Somebody will remember her...

Surely they will. I'm not saying she isn't popular, I'm saying she ****ing sucks.

I think when she is a little older she'll leave the theatrics and just sing and write.. be an activist maybe.

Yeah I'll hold my breath. She said in interviews here that she's interested in being a world icon, selling her merch to everyone on the planet (as close to an actual quote as my memory is capable.)

She's not a musician. She's a hack and the working definition of a sellout.

And I'm sorry, she is not a fantastic songwriter. She's as much a songwriter as Rodney Dangerfield is a poet.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

Man IT, I just spent the last 30 minutes googling and listening again.
Yep, Pink, she's probably my fav.
I really like "Nobody Knows". She's probably known best for her "Dear Mr. President" song, so google that [you may not like that]. But she also sings a song written by her dad, a vet which is wonderful. "I have seen the rain". I've a bad girl + in your face non girly-girl side so songs like "Cuz I Can", "Ur + R Hand", appeal to me. "Conversations with my 13 yr old self", "I've got money now" are pretty honest. She shows much more of herself than most artists imo. I like that. Plus she's got this sultry sexy voice. Man, I wish I could sing like that [I wish I could sing period heh.]

I like it Larry, but the song doesn't tug at my strings like Pink's stuff. It gets a lot of play here.

Thanks, Jolly -- she reminds me a lot of Karla Bonoff.

BTW, as far as Lady Gaga -- watching her more than hold her own with Elton John tells me that she's a massive talent.

I am intrigued by this Pink.

Thought Tiny Tim was a poor and malnourished character in a popular Dickens story.....

I'm wondering if an old friend who used to be in the piano industry had a hand is this. Wink, wink! Nudge, nudge! :)

It has the knack of "old pro" shining through. It is quite lovely.
