All the better to market to you, my dear. |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |

Mark Zuckerberg has long said he doesn't believe in privacy. Using concern over bullying now as an argument against privacy is cynical and disingenuous on his part. |

It does not appear that insisting users register with their real names is illegal, Facebook can certainly require such in its term of service. I don't really see that as "news" here. News would be Facebook promising not to use your info in certain way and that breaks its promise. |

There's the marketing angle as RR mentioned and I'm sure that's Zuckerberg's reasoning. The other contingent of the anti-anonymity crowd tend to be the high-horse types who "just want people to be more civil". I read that, more often than not, as code for "I want to know that anybody who expresses a thought crime or is politically incorrect will be duly punished". There is a heck of a lot to be said for anonymity, and the fact is that anonymous people are MORE honest about their thoughts. People get hung up on the "cowardly" aspect but there's so much more to it. |
| As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good? | |
