Nice to know that violence, larceny and drugs are all well under control in Georgia and the police now have time to focus on lesser issues. Seems like a good time to cut cops costs.

I don't think the issue lies there, but rather here:

Quote:

“We had told them, we understand you guys are young, but still, you’re breaking the law, and we can’t let you do it anymore. The law is the law, and we have to be consistent with how we enforce the laws,” Midway Police Chief Kelly Morningstar said.

This is what I find to be most disturbing. The Spirit of the Law is dead, none are left to uphold it. We've all but completely gutted personal discretion in our legal and business practices these days and look at the problems it causes.
I cite irreconcilable differences.

In Britain, they would be referred to as jobsworths.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

Wholly agreed, Aqua. It is the letter rather than the intent of the law.

+1

People have either lost the ability to think for themselves, or don't want to be responsible for the consequences. But it is particularly disturbing to see this in authority figures, who should have a high degree of judgment and discretion.
Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool.

I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss!

Gee, I didn't see you recognize the "intent" of the law and riled over the abuse of frequent fliers ordering large quantities of dollar coins to get credit card reward miles. Not only that, you endorsed the abuse as "smart."

For that, I see hypocrisy on your part.

from the article

City officials said it’s their job to keep everyone safe and healthy, and there can be no exceptions to the rules.

“We were not aware of how the lemonade was made, who made the lemonade, of what the lemonade was made with, so we acted accordingly by city ordinance,” Chief Morningstar said.
Good, the police did the right thing for the right reason.

from the article

So the law wins, and what started out as three girls’ dream of a fun summer business is now just a piece of plywood.
As it should be. No entrepreneurial dream should be built upon disregard or outright violation of the law. Young aspiring entrepreneurs should learn early on that following laws and regulations is a vital part of building and operating a business.

So what?

One is not allowed to break the law (e.g., stealing) to pay for a kidney transplant. Why should one be allowed to break the law to go to a ****ing water park?

The intent of what law? You are so far off into fantasyland here. The government made a business offer to sell to the public dollar coins. The credit card companies made an offer to give benefits for purchases made on their cards. People saw the opportunity and took it.

The fault, if any, lies in yet another blunder by the government, selling money at what amounts to a discount with thevcreditccard fees and shipping costs. And you wonder why we don't want the government to take over healthcare.

No hypocrisy at all. No law was violated and no enforcement decision is necessary. As a matter of fact, the only thing called into question here is your reading comprehension and ability to reason.

The intent of the law (concerning dollar coins) was to promote widespread use and circulation of the dollar coins.

The frequent flier abusers took advantage of the incentive provided without honoring the intent.

While no letter of the law was violated, the intent of the law was certainly violated.

So, yes, there is hypocrisy.

That might be the most ridiculous thing you ever posted. When someone makes an offer to sell it is because they hope to reap some benefit from doing so. That in no way obligates the purchaser to use the purchased item in a manner that helps the seller realize their goal.

No Ax. You confuse the government's responsibility to enforce laws according to their intent with people rights to act without regard to the intent of laws as long as they are not breaking any laws.

No hypocrisy, just a failure on your part to understand the nature of government.

This is a joke, right?

The whole thing must be a joke.
The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy
