I don't need to tour your facility. I don't need to meet your personal trainers and find out about all of those options. I don't need to know about daycare, child camps, and pet care. I don't need to know about your juice bar, personal nutrition specialists. I don't want or need tennis instruction. All I need is access to a treadmill, a stationary bike, a simple weight bench, and a pool 2-3 times a week. How much? No, I am not going to come in to discuss my individual fitness needs. The only fitness needs I have is the need to fit my foot in your @@@. Now, how much for a fvcking membership?! |

Yeah, they suck like that. I'm happy I gave up my NY Sports Club membership and now am at the Y. Its cheaper, and they have a pool, which my NYSC didn't have. Is there a Y near you? |

Try this ... I don't need to tour your showroom or "rebuilding facility," I don't need to meet your salesweasel-technician, I don't need to know about dealer prep, free tunings, and upgrade trade-in price guarantee. I don't need to know about your player piano system. I don't want or need help with choosing a piano. All I need is a Brand X Model Y brand new piano. How much? No, I'm not going to come in to discuss my musical artistic and recreational needs. The only musical expression needs I have is to fit my fist through your salesweaselly vocal chords. Now, how much for that fvcking piano? There, relates better?

I hate hype too. That said, a clean change room and a good shower are important to me. I've an ongoing hate-on for kiddies at my gym. They've started strollercise classes for moms, and someday soon you'll hear of me arrested for assaulting a mom on the running track. Grrrrr ... Keep those RSV laden puking sippy cup hurling babes far far away from me! |

My condo building in Toronto has a pool and a great work-out room. One of my favorite things about living there. |

Civilisation, I vaguely realized then - and subsequent observation has confirmed the view - could not progress that way. It must have a greater guiding principle to survive. To treat it as a carcase off which each man tears as much as he can for himself, is to stand convicted a brute, fit for nothing better than a jungle existence, which is a death-struggle, leading nowhither. I did not believe that was the human destiny, for Man individually was sane and reasonable, only collectively a fool. I hope the gunner of that Hun two-seater shot him clean, bullet to heart, and that his plane, on fire, fell like a meteor through the sky he loved. Since he had to end, I hope he ended so. But, oh, the waste! The loss! - Cecil Lewis | |

What kills me are these guys who do these "spinning" classes and then think that translates into road performance.

Mark, do not get me started, man. Do not even get me started. Attending religiously your lame ass spandex-laden Exercise Camp for Adults does not make you an "athlete" no matter how much you overspent on your apparel. |

Men who do spin classes do so for the scenery. It's a back row thing I hear. |

I think I know where you're going Aqua. That's fine. I don't really know any serious road cyclists who attend those spin-bike spin classes. My husband gets together with a group in our winters and they haul their bikes and rollers to a school gym where they do their thing. He hurts with it but it keeps him in shape til spring comes. He's 47 now. He can't bike to work in our weather anymore. |

Yeah, that's entirely different. If you put your bike on some rollers, then you already have the bike. There's the assumption you take it out in more favorable weather. I just have this big thing against what gyms have turned into. I'm with LD. Gimmie my equipment and leave me alone. |

The older I get the more I'm getting into cross training. Rowers, ellipticals are easy on my joints on days I don't run. I've yet to use a stairclimber though. I'm old school and like putting my body in motion up and down actual flights of stairs. I'm weird this way: I prefer the solitude. I'm a soloist, dislike class stuff. |

I don't fancy myself a cyclist, and I find Spinning on a stationary bicycle rather boring. While I can appreciate the fact that you can get a good cardio workout from Spinning, I just can't stand the boredom.

I know what you mean Ax. I dont do bikes cause i know I'd miss being on the real thing (and I can't be on a real bike now). I endure ellipticals and it gets to me after an hour. 2 hours is pure hell mentally. I choose one that's far away from the rows of others to be by myself and just zone out with non classical music. I should try swimming again but am lazy. Power walking outside is great but I need hills for a work out. I'm not much for bad weather, dogs, traffic either. |

blindie, Do you like to dance? How about Zumba? Good cardio, and (IMO) not boring. You just need to have a very thick skin if you were to do it in front of other people because, unless you're pretty good at Latin dances, you'd look silly and awkward doing many of the Zumba moves. |

I'd zumba with you Ax but not with others. Especially girls. I'd zumba with Vince too. Btw, I've no rhythm. Does this matter? |

Ha. I don't care what I look like. I've had to wear spandex and slog for 26 miles in a sea of 45000 runners. I'll not do yoga. I draw the line there. Putting myself on a mat in a room of people is not my idea of a good time. I need to move through space, not on one little rectangle. Gah. |

Why join a Gym when there are so many things you have around the house that can give you a great workout?.. I use the stairs, the walls, and the chairs and can find a lot of items for weights. I joined a Gym, cost me a fortune and it was simply not enjoyable. I now only do exercise and workouts at home. I do have the Zumba tapes, but then I love to dance. I did not need to lose weight, but I wanted to tone and simply feel fit and maintain energy levels. Works for me! |

make an offer and walk away if they do give you a price. We always (and usually successfully) negotiate. We still got sooooo screwed by our gym because the contract had an automatic renewal clause. At they gym they just said ' oh you can quit anytime'.... but they didn't say our bills would continue. I actually got most of the charges removed, pulling out the cancer card and walking into the office bald. Yay me. not bald anymore. |
