Well you certainly made me smile this morning… okay the way to pronounce my name is ‘cat-ra-oine (as in bone)..it's not my birth name but one that everybody uses online or offline...yes I live in Orstrilliaaaaaaaaaa, get the accent right folks !! but I have an Irish accent just to confuse things even more.I am Bristish by birth, Australian by choice, my family tree just had to be cut down and a new one planted.

I'll answer the other questions one by one.... :blah:

I thought it was Gaelic. (that's what Google said anyway... ^_^ )

Welcome! Tell us a bit about yourself. Do you play piano by any chance? That is the genesis of this room's long and storied history. (You don't have to, and we don't talk a lot about it, it's just where things started).
I wish I could play the piano, but apart from playing 'Chopsticks' that was as far as I got, however listening to someone play (regardless of technique) from the heart can keep me entranced for hours.
As for info about myself..where to start and how long have you got?.

Dancing is a passion of mine and have recently achieved my gold medal in Latin American dancing after working my way through the other various levels...I go to every ballet that is available where I live, we have a wonderful performing Arts Centre here...I saw the Bolshoi(sp) Ballet Company but they left me cold, their technique is wonderful but there was no emotion, no feeling and certainly no heart allowed to shine through in their performances... I have seen Swan Lake fifty four times!

If there is music on I can be caught dancing around the house with great abandonment, and yes I have been caught out doing this, once by some religious doorknockers, they didn’t seem to want to talk for long! Maybe the pink feather boa was a tad out of place with the rubber gloves and duster?

I am ageless and evergreen.....happily married and we have eight children....I am a Therapist working with children and adults recovering from Childhood Trauma....I love to write, serious and also funny stuff, a great stress reliever.....laughter to me is food for the soul....I dislike dishonesty with a passion. Anything else you would like to know? Well just ask me....!!
What coincidence! Heard an NPR segment this morning on "accumulated childhood trauma" and its effects on the auto-immune system.

Are you familiar with the research that correlates childhood trauma with auto-immunity? If you are, what are you thoughts on it?
There certainly is a strong link between trauma and the impact on the auto immune system, its good old fashioned common sense, if children especially are unable to voice their fear, pain, confusion they will internalise it.
Firstly they take responsibility for what has happened, they think there was something they did that led to the event (abuse in any form) so they feel shame and fear of being found out so they will again internalise it. These consequences of abuse are toxic to the body so their physical health is going to suffer…
I have worked with many adults who have suffered ill health all their adult lives, conditions such as Fibromyalgia for example…a very painful inflammation of the joints which renders them unable to work or participate in any physical activities.
They become isolated, just as they felt as a child plus this specific medical condition and stress go hand in hand. When all traditional western medical treatment has been given with little or no relief they will often arrive on my doorstep with the need for some Chronic Pain relief skills, they are usually referred to me by the medical profession.
I remember one person in particular who was suffering severe bouts of depression, had been unable to work, and was in a high level of Chronic pain. After some time she opened up about the abuse she suffered as a child so we began to look more into that and that became her focus for continuing to see me. After quite a lengthy period of time her pain levels began to diminish
Each time she released the emotions and thoughts connected to the abuse the pain level dropped again, she began to regain her mobility, she started to return to work…..so to cut this very long post short, she became free of this particular medical condition, she now plays tennis, has an active social life, she loves to dance, she works full time and is now totally free of the condition of Fibromyalgia.

Trauma and ill health go hand in hand, so the Trauma needs to be acknowledged and released for a person’s physical health to improve…and it always does.....now isn't that just fanatastic?

That reminds me ...

As a Therapist, do you agree that "modern liberalism is a mental disease" ?

Do you see any link between childhood trauma and modern liberalism?

Personally I don't see the connection, I hope it is just a human condition that I'd like to see become very contagious !!......if it a mental disease I am all for it......I get the feeling you are pulling my leg, so make sure you wash your hands afterwards......I might be contagious. ! :lol2:

Modern Liberalism
Someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad.

Ah, but you're being sensible and logical. The reference Ax is making is to a favourite phrase of our Larry, who is only talking about Americans; Americans the way he sees them. So don't dwell on it too much, and yes, Ax is pulling your leg, or poking your leg to be more accurate.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, you being new and all, but that's not the definition of a modern liberal. That's the utopian view that lefties like to tell themselves is the definition, but it is incorrect.

Modern liberalism is a politically correct version of Socialism. You see, Conservatives welcome new ideas without rigid reactions also - we just want those new ideas to be useful. Conservatives also care about the welfare of the people - we just think the way to care for them is to provide jobs and allow them to take pride in themselves instead of enslaving them in a socialist system that strips them of their dignity. Conservatives also care about peoples' health, housing, schools, jobs, civil rights, and civil liberties. We just recognize that the modern liberal's Socialist approach to those things have proven to be a failure at a minimum, and a threat to freedom and democracy at its worst.

To find the true definition of modern liberalism, you must first define what a liberal is, and understand the difference between the two. Liberalism, often referred to as Classic Liberalism, would come close to your definition were that definition not laced with the progressive utopian propaganda. Classic Liberalism focused on the ability of individuals to structure a society, was to totalitarianism and collectivist ideologies. Modern liberalism embraces those very things that a Classic Liberal stood against.

That said, you folks from Great Britain seem to have the terms turned upside down from what they mean here in the US. Also, it involves more than just a political element.

Being a therapist, perhaps you've heard of the esteemed forensic psychiatrist Dr. Lyle Rossiter. He wrote a book explaining how modern liberalism was a mental disorder.

I agree with his diagnosis.........

Hey therapist lady,

I have this habit and I'm wondering if it means somethin'....

Sometimes I start to say somethin', and end up saying something else. Like last week I wuz buyin' a bus ticket and the girl working at the station had these huge boobs.. I meant to say "I'd like a ticket to Pittsburgh, but I accidentally said "I'd like a picket to Titsburgh." Then this morning I wuz having breakfast with my sweet Rowena, and I meant to say "Honey, would you pass the sugar?" but instead I said "You've ruined my life, you freaking B****h!!!

Whut does that mean, and does it have anything to do with my momma being my aunt?

Dain bramage caused my peach imspediment.

You are a very eloquent writer, and I agree with what you are saying, my post in italics was just the general version that you refer to…..I am all about empowering people to make their own choices and to change whatever they need to change in their lives to be happy, healthy and productive. I promote independence, self-responsibility, control and self-respect. People will never have that or get a chance to if we simply ‘give’…in my work I promote self- psychology, which means helping another person to search and find what they ‘need’ or ‘want’ not what I tell them they should ‘need and ‘want…it is their life, not mine…there is a saying which is used without the whole quote being used……’ You need to walk a mile in my shoes but first you must remove your own’……so I have to remove what would be okay for me and focus on what is best for the other person….to impose my standards on another person is akin to the abuse/dogma they are already struggling with.

P.S. I am Australian not British !!

We now have accentual (Is that a word? it is now.) spellings for 'Orstrilliaaaaaaaaaa' and 'Minnesoooota'.

Let me try. Say it with me Dewey -

'oHIo'. 'O-hi-o'. No. Just doesn't work.

Hello, Catraoine. I do hope you find some entertainment or enjoyment here and stay awhile. Eventually, you'll figure out who the real people (or primary illusions) are here and who are sock puppets for fun and/or mayhem.

I have a passing acquaintance with Australia, having lived there for three years and having two daughters who were born there.

Seeing Swan Lake 54 times must qualify as some sort of record. How many different dance companies and venues did that encompass?
