Well, meet's are held on Saturday mornings and Wednesday Evenings. Friday's have been "Pizza Night" this summer, so maybe that's helped.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

There you go! Carb loading via pizza works well, too.

I wouldn't discount carb loading!
I know you're not doing it intentionally, but waking up for a meet Saturday morning after eating lots of "energy" the night before definitely helps top off the tanks.

I do the same thing before long rides, but I do it with beer. ;)

Carbs before, carbs/protein during, protein after - that's my formula and it's working well enough to get this mechanical valved heart with a moderate/serious aortic leak riding 50+ miles on a bike.

Congrats to Luke - this has to be an awesome confidence booster for him to watch himself progress, and really begin to become competitive with the kids that are really "good." Knowing that people want him to study this more seriously (year round) must also feel good, even if he doesn't want to work that hard. I'm sure just knowing that you're that good is a big piece of getting out there and doing it.

And congrats to you guys for finding something he's interested in, and excels at, and encouraging him in succeeding at it.

4/10ths of a second. That's what seperated him from 1st and 2nd overall in freestyle last night. His time went down about 1.4 seconds. He also knocked 5 seconds off of his best backstroke time, and 4 seconds off of his breast stroke.

The best part? Luke's been wanting to race in the 25M Fly, but for whatever reasons it's been overlooked. This morning he asked me to get him to practice early. So we get in, and he's the first kid there. He goes right up to the head coach and says that he wants to swim butterfly this Saturday, because it's the last regular meet of the summer. The coach hems and haws about the fact that they've not gotten a chance to work on it together and 2 days is not enough time. Luke goes over, dives in and does 25M. The coach just looks, shakes his head, and tells him he's in this Saturday.

Actually, in a way it sucks that he's in the Champs division. In All-Stars, he would have had an excellent chance to medal. In Champs, we're likely hoping for somewhere in the middle of the pack.
Oh noes! The time I was quoted for his Breast Stroke was wrong, and he didn't qualify for Champs in that stroke.

Unfortunately, he did qualify for it in Backstroke, which is his least favorite and worst stroke! So now he'll be forced to swim freestyle and backstroke, and in the Champs division for both with almost no chance to medal.

He can still qualify to swim Breast instead of Back, but that means taking 4 seconds off of his stroke tomorrow.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.
