So we're looking for a new mechanic. I'm worried about getting taken for a ride, so I decide to join Angie's List. I'm halfway through the registration process when something comes up and I have to leave. So I close it out. That evening, there's an email to me offering a discounted rate to join Angie's List. I shrug and figure that I will check it out later. Now, this morning, there's a new email telling me "ooops, we meant to give you a bigger discount" with a 40% off discount code. Frankly, they are starting to sound like the sleeze balls I was hoping to avoid by joining.

If you want trouble, find yourself a redhead
Yep. I've tried to use things like that before. They just want your money.

I've heard a number of people saying Angie's List is a waste of time.
What do you mean "we", have you got a mouse in your pocket?

According to one often played TV commercial you only need to look for the guys with the cape.

There is a line we cross when we go from "I will believe it when I see it" to "I will see it when I believe it".

Uh, 89th? That's what this whole thread is about. Unless you are being sarcastic?

I have wished for a free Angie's list type site, and the money cost always stopped me. Besides that, there is so much variation in opinion on stuff like that.

A shop gets a bad rating by a competitor. They put in their own phony good ratings. A customer doesn't understand the shop's legitimate issues and gives them a bad rating. A bad rating is given based on one employee's work, but that employee was let go two years before. A good rating is given for an employee's work but that employee left two years ago.

I checked into some ratings for a motel in the same city that my wife and I honeymooned in. There was a good deal on a few nights thru groupon. Reviews were all over the place. Some sounding terrible, some sounding great, scattered all over all times. I decided it was better just pass on it.

No, I'm not being sarcastic at all.

(If you could hear me say that out loud, you'd know I'm being sarcastic about that too)
