I know from my own experience that if you challenge a cop's authority like that you will likely get a ride to jail. It has been that way everywhere in this country since long before YouTube allowed people to make their jackassery go viral.

Dancing is not disrespecting anything. These people were not doing anything wrong.

They transgressed the Park's unwritten law. They are lucky that someone was not specifically called in to nail their heads to the floor.

Just curious: How do *you* pronounce 'cretins'?

Most Americans say "creeetins."

I worked with a guy from South Africa who pronounced it "crehtins."

It shouldn't really matter who they are. If a group of people march into the Jefferson Memorial wearing tea-bags on their heads and shouting that Obama is a two-bit thug they should be treated in the same way, after first being politely asked to leave of course.

I don't care "who" they are or "what" message they are trying to get across.

If you want to put an end to this sort of thing, amend the constitution to give local/state and federal governments the power to regulate free speech and peaceful assembly in such areas.

Don't just ignore the constitution! We have done that for far too long on too many subjects! It leads us to things like mandated purchases of private goods and services among other more life and liberty threatening things.

I would be fine with that. And I think it should be done.

But ignoring the constitution (as all three branches of the federal government and most if not ll state governments have done for well over 100 years on many occasions) is wrong.

well then its hard for me to understand why constitutional law is a huge course in every law school with huge textbooks with thousands of pages of very learned discourse.

In Oregon, dancing is protected by State Supreme Court decisions as "free speech". That's why I think we have more nudie bars than any other state per capita. And they get to dance completely naked.

We don't need to stinkin' pasties!

Of course here, that kind of free speech would not be allowed out of doors.

Having just watched "The Longest Day" last night, I can comfortably say that they pronounce it as "chreht-ins" to rhyme with "pet-ins".

The French commander talks of how the Free French Forces had fought in Abissina, Libya, Egypt, and Crete - the latter pronounced as "chreht".

Actually, the very fact that two views exist here as to whether or not these anti-american nutjobs have the right to disturb the peace is proof of why all that "bulls!t" exists.

Person A says they have that right.
Person B says they do not have that right.

Someone must listen to both sides' arguments and apply the Constitution to make a decision as to which one is correct.

And unfortunately for the argument that these nutjobs had a right to stage their stupid game, this has already been addressed by the branch of government that the constitution set up precisely to do that. They did not have a constitutional right to do what they did, and they were given fair warning.

I would have shot them.

That's all well and good, but the constitution also gives the Supreme Court the task of settling issues as they arise, and an outcome of that is that while the government cannot limit free speech, it can regulate how and when you apply it, for the good of everyone. For instance, if you want to get a group together and stand on your heads in front of the state capitol and fart in unison, you have that right - but you have to get a permit, and the government has the right to say when you can and when you cannot hold your fartathon.
