I think everything the police officers did was by the book. They're better guys than I am, I'd have busted at least two head's. Maybe the skinny girl also.

Don't you actually need to cite what laws are being broken before arresting people? "You'll find out" seems capricious.

Booking them for being bloody annoying probably wouldn't have looked too good in court. To be honest, I don't think anybody came away from that situation looking very intelligent.

I'm sure they left thinking they'd made a fantastic point about the brutality of modern Amerikkka, although presumably we can't we use that term now that Obama is in charge.

I think they were asked in a fairly nice tone to cease and desist. The group then chose to ignore the officer's request and his subsequent warnings.

Sorry, you want to be an attention whore and try to ruin other people's visit to the monument, you deserve to be arrested. You also deserve to sit in the pokey until the next working day, in order to enjoy your experience.

They committed no crime.

They do not deserve to be arrested let alone physically abused like this.

WTF is wrong with you people???

I agree that they should have been told what law they were violating. If the answer was none or unknown they should not have been arrested.

That said, they went to a public place that deserves some respect and decorum and decided like spoiled children to throw what amounts to a tantrum to get attention. They are not deserving of our respect for doing this obnoxious thing.

It must be hard for Code Pink to get noticed these days. For their poor, attention-starved little hearts:

Pretty much anywhere if you taunt the police and get all up in their face there will be consequences. I can't say that cop number one handled everything very well but from the moment of his warning these people seemed determined to get themselves arrested. They are fortunate they do not live in a police state. Their behavior would have been handled quite a bit differently in one.

Yep, getting arrested for that sort of thing is a badge of honor and a great story in the minds of some people.

It was the cops who decided to ruin everyone's visit to the monument. I understand (but haven't verified) that in DC Parks/Memorials groups of less that 25 don't need to have a permit, so there is no "unauthorized demonstration" -- those cops evidently didn't have any handle on the law, obvious from the "you'll find out" comment.

If you are good with Federal Police capriciously telling American citizens how to act when at national monuments, I am not sure what you think "freedom" really means.

What were they protesting?

They were protesting against the fact that nobody had paid them any attention whatsoever since they moved out of their parents' houses at 25.

It was an effective protest, as protests go.

I'm from the South. You will show some respect and decorum at certain times, or we'll by God beat some respect into you.

Story in point...I once watched two local cops having a devil of a time loading a protesting idiot into the back of a cruiser. A state trooper walked up and asked could he help...the two local guys let him have the gentleman being arrested.

In a loud voice he told the man to watch his head as the door opening was rather low. He then proceeded to grab the man by the back of the head and broke his nose on the top of the door jamb.

The perp then proceeded to load quietly.

Now, some will look at that as police brutality. I look on it more as a disrespect for authority, and authority reasserted. There are times and ways to do things the proper way.

You want to protest or make an arse out of yourself? Get a permit.
