I hope your mom's house survives, MS. Must be devastating, knowing you might lose your home to flooding.

Joke? I'm really disappointed. How would you feel if you were about to lose your home and had a few days to sandbag and pack up what you can for what may be months?

MS, I'm sorry for the joke. I did not read all of your post, but clicked the link and was responding to that. That happens here at times. When I went back I noticed more and responded to that.

Mom's house is gone.
NO! Oh my goodness. Is she OK? Where is she? At a shelter?

Horrible. Floods, tornados and wildfires. A friend of mine in Slave Lake lost his house to the wild fire there that took out half the town two weeks ago. This is a really bad year. My heart goes out to all.

It's a bad year.

And...we don't build for water, anymore. The way some of the oldest homes are built down here, you could pretty much sluice them out and they'd still be habitable.

Not so much, with construction in the last 70 years....

Oh MS, I am so sorry. I sincerely hope she managed to take what mattered most to her when she was evacuated, and that she is safe and sound.

Yes, even with the two day notice and changing information the Corps gave, friends and family came over to help remove things from her house and one friend offered storage. Ran out of time for enough sandbagging by the time the water reached her house today, it's been abandoned. The up to 3 hour wait for sandbags really hurt. So many homes are affected on both sides of the river.

The river is currently at 13 feet and is expected to reach 21 feet. They are currently putting out 85,000 cubic feet per second of water and will increase to 150,000 cfs by mid-June. Levees are being hastily built to try to save the towns.

Mom's safe, worn out, in shock, devastated. I got her birthday card today. :(

Such short notice by the Corps and the floodwaters arriving faster than expected!
