Mine's up for renewal, my tax guy says he thinks I'm over paying. So I'm going to shop around a bit.

Any recommendations? Especially from people who have made a claim?
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Finally
Allstate has done me very well with the Cheddarshack® disaster, so far.

I paid my deductible ($1000) and they have covered about $70K in damage. Last week they wanted a list of personal property damaged with approx dates and purchase prices. That totals another $5K. I don't know how much they'll reimburse for that, but it's been pretty good.

Are they the cheapest? Perhaps not, but I can't (so far) complain about the coverage.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

HOLY CARP!!!
I've only ever had one homeowners claim thru Farmers Ins. They handled that great (and they actually failed to charge me for my $500 deductible). Shhhh!

However, a few years later they poorly handled my wife's auto claim and I ended up suing them in small claims court (and settling for double what was once promised and then refused).

I then went to Amica because of their very high customer satisfaction ratings. I've not had any claims with them yet. Not sure if I'm paying too much.

We did have State Farm for years on our autos and they were fabulous. We had three auto accidents over the years and they handled it great each time, they only raised our rates a fraction for short periods and they eventually extended a "no cancellation pledge" to us because we were such good customers. Then, as I was working for Farmers Ins at the time I moved evertyhing there. And then later to Amica.

Shortstop
State Farm Home, Auto, Life and a single umbrella Liability policy - very helpful with a flooded basement claim
Old Republic for the airplanes
Avemco for airplane renters insurance
AOPA for aviation legal insurance
And a few bucks to the Kenyan who comes around saying "Those are real nice fingers you have there..."
And Aetna for Health and Dental
And Medicare - I'm not sure what that is for
And Amex flight insurance

The Confederate soldier was peculiar in that he was ever ready to fight, but never ready to submit to the routine duty and discipline of the camp or the march. The soldiers were determined to be soldiers after their own notions, and do their duty, for the love of it, as they thought best. Carlton McCarthy

Ours was through USAA. The day after our house burned down, we called them up and by the end of the day they had deposited 5k into our account (to meet our immediate needs/expenses). At very step of the way, they would ask if we needed them to deposit more money into the account.
