That is certainly one of many views on the subject, unfortunately, it is incorrect. The *word* "rapture" is not found in scripture. The *concept* however, IS. 1 Thessalonians 4:17: "Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." Thessalonians was written in Greek. The Greek word "Harpazo" translates into "caught up". It is a verb. When the original Greek was translated into Latin (I believe that was you Catholics who did that, eh? ) "Harpazo" is translated into "rapturo", again meaning "caught up" - to "snatch, or take away". Other places in scripture where the word "harpazo" is used is in Acts where Phillip is "harpazo" (caught up) and taken to Caesarea, and in 2 Corinthians where Paul describes being "caught up" to the 3rd heaven. There is no question that the verse in Thessalonians is saying that humans will be "snatched" - "caught up" - an actual removal of humans from earth. So while the word "rapture" doesn't appear in the Bible, the event described by the use of the word "harpazo" and translated by the Catholic Church into "rapturo" certainly DOES appear in the Bible, and is not a 19th century "innovation", but is scriptural. |

Larry do you believe tomorrow's the day of the rapture? Do you wonder at all, or consider the possibility, or dismiss it outright? I won't laugh. Billions believe nuttier stuff, like a virgin having a baby.

Scripture shows 3 components to the concept of being "caught up". The return of Christ: "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout. . ." (1 Thess. 4:16). "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to myself" (John 14:3) The resurrection of dead believers: "The dead in Christ shall rise first" (1 Thess. 4:16). "The dead will be raised imperishable" (1 Cor. 15:52). What happens to the living believers: "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up" (1 Thess. 4:17). A reunion between the dead believers and those who are alive at the time of this event: "We. . . shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord" (1 Thess. 4:17). "I will come. . . that where I am, there you may be also" (John 14:3). How both will change: "We shall be changed. For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality" (1 Cor. 15:52-53). "We eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory" (Philippians 3:20-21). The speed in which this even will happen: "In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye" (1 Cor. 15:52). So there it all is laid out in front of you, straight from scripture - all the components of the "rapture", this "protestant heresy" that, while fully scriptural, is unfortunately described using a word used by the Catholic church - "rapturo". So whether one subscribes to an event known as the rapture or not, the fact remains that scripture says that Jesus Christ will return suddenly and without warning, and with a shout the dead in Christ will rise and be "caught up to be with Jesus Christ, and then those who are alive will be instantly "caught up" to join them, all in a new, eternal body. That is what is called the "rapture", unless you are of the opinion that the New Testament was written in the 1800s, then the "rapture" is completely scriptural. |

Kenny, I believe the Bible to be divinely inspired. I believe that God exists, and it was God who inspired the writing of scripture. I have just shown you the scripture that describes the events some refer to as the "rapture", so yes, I believe there will be a day when these things happen. Whether is will be tomorrow or not, I have no idea. As for the "nuttier stuff" like a virgin having a baby, if you consider that to be "nutty", I suggest you spend some time studying the culture of that era, read the words of prophets who lived a thousand years before who described it, and spend some time learning just how mathematically impossible it would be for the events of two thousand years to all come together so perfectly just do end up describing a "silly hoax". |

Kenny, I readily admit to being a heathen. I have no moral footing for "preaching" at anyone. I am fully aware that God probably will have to dip me in some sort of disinfectant at some point.. But: Have you ever read the descriptions the prophets who lived a thousand years before Christ gave of the coming Messiah? Jesus Christ is described in such minute detail in the old testament that there is only one human to ever live who could even come close to being the one they were describing. His birth, his life, his death, and his resurrection from death all described like an eyewitness account - more than a thousand years before he was born. I would have to be a fool to NOT believe it, no offense. |
