Say, did you use the word "like" in the contemporary teen parlance sense or the Facebook sense?

Oh, I certainly LOVE to watch the guys on the merry go round.
They think they are making progress but they are only going round and round.
Apparently others enjoy the show too.

I'm not holding a gun to their heads.
They can wise up and step off, as have most Christians here.

Have you ever watched a hamster on a wheel?
It's funny how serious and determined they are.

Kenny, that is an allusion to the apocryphal gospel according to John Lennon.

Stirring the sh*t on Brenda's thread when she's throwing out contemplations of religious sensitivities is immature. Scab picking, mentioning the good name of a lady who used to post here is immature. The gladiator thing is beyond immature.

Kenny started a light hearted post rapture thread. He's hardly to be blamed for the christian vs christian battling that ensued.

This is Kenny's typical and constant behaviour, though. Honestly, I don't think he knows how to behave like a mature and sensitive human being. He talks a good game about tolerance and respect, and yet, is entirely unfamiliar with the most basic notions of those concepts.

You can't militantly DEMAND tolerance or respect. They are earned.

Yes he has a B.Sc. in civil engineering.

the Masoretic Text, did not include the apocrpyhal books. As I'm sure you are aware, the Masoretic Texts are much older than the Septuagint, a translation of the Masoretic Texts into Greek because the Jews had spread out over a larger area of the Roman Empire, and were beginning to lose their Hebrew language. Thus: Jews did not consider the apocryphal books inspired scripture. They considered them to be of historical value, and nothing more.
Larry - you really don't know what you're talking about here. [/quote]

I did make a mistake in referring to the Masoretic Text as being older than the Septuagint. The Tanakh is older, the Masoretic text being the Tanakh with grammatical markings to aid in pronunciation. The fact still remains, the apocryphal books are not found in either the Tanakh or the Masoretic texts.

Larry, that is only one of several mistakes that you made in that one single post, even without mentioning others. You really, truly don't know what you're talking about here.

Tanakh - actually, TNK - is an acronym that refers to the Hebrew Bible, consisting of the Torah (The Law); The Nevi'im (The Prophets); and the Ketuvim (The Writings); and both the Masoretic text (MT) and Septuagint text (LXX) contain the Tanakh. While they are quite consistent between the two, there are significant enough variations between the Septuagint and the Masoretic texts that it is clear that the LXX was translated from a different source document than the documents which ultimately were canonized and found in the MT. Virtually all of the quotes of OT scripture found in the NT are from the LXX, not the MT, as you claimed. And in fact, the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical texts were, in fact, considered scripture by a large number of Jews, right up until the current canon was established at Jamnia in 90 CE.

That's just a few examples for starters. But that's as far as I'm going. I'm just telling you that throughout this thread, you've shown that, even leaving theological discussion off the table for a moment, when it comes to having an accurate understanding of the history of the scriptures and the church, you really don't know what you're talking about.

Not at all. This thread was never intended to be lighthearted. I called it in the second post.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I've been lighthearted for the entire discussion. It's all the religous people who got all pissed off about God-knows-what - it does my heart good to see so many rancours, as the man with the speech impediment said to the Bishop.
