Daughter's theater director announced tonight that the time frame for the play will not be 1910, but 1950 instead. It's a good thing I can procrastinate so well that I've not done a thing for her costume yet, eh? :lol2:

Sooooo .... for the final scene after the funeral, I'm thinking the Lady of the Manor (I forget her actual title) should be wearing a black suit with a hat like this with a veil:

Any other suggestions?

a veil under any type of black hat will do you well.. you can pin brooches on felt. I am not a 50s hat expert.. but maybe Sue is.

I have a picture of me and a date and another couple taken on Easter Sunday 1952. We were going to Atlantic City that day,
all dressed up. Both Ladies were in suits and very large rather flat hats. My dates hat had to be 30" brim to brim.

you know... back when I was bald i went downtown to a piano concert wearing the cutest, boldest black wool hat ever. I had been waiting to wear it. I expected to take it off in the auditorium and fortunately wore a scarf underneath. I got out of my car and woosh...

it flew off of my head and instantly was a block away, tumbling down the street at 20 mph.

bye bye cool hat. :weeping:

Large and flat, eh? I think I know the type you are describing. That could be fun, too. Thanks!

Argh! Bummer to lose the cool hat, apple. If it was vintage, double or triple bummer.

I love that look, the wide brimmed flat hat, but I think you are on the right track for something that is going to be worn on stage. Like apple says, add a bit of a veil (I don't think you need to have much) under the hat you posted, or just about anything and it would look ok, imo. I imagine what you don't want is to cover her face so the audience can't see her?

disclaimer: I'm no hat expert, I just like hats. Dol could likely offer expert fashion advice, and theatre related tips.

That must be a wonderful picture, Vince.
