I have 2 items I want to ship from San Diego to NY (mid town Manhattan).

1. Upper bunk bed (twin size) - it comes apart and can pack flat, but is heavy (This End Up product). Includes mattress.

2. Electric piano - also comes apart (keyboard and base, which disassembles too).

Any suggestions on the best way to ship these - either together, or separately?

Maybe try Freightquote.com?

FedEx and UPS might be too expensive...

HOLY CARP!!!
Is this for a college student?

If so, I'd also compare the price of just buying stuff in NY.
If it were for me one of those $50 3-section, folding foam futon thingies would be fine.

Then I'd buy a used keyboard on Craigslist then sell it when leaving NY.

I sold a guitar on eBay two years ago. It was more expensive to ship it than what I got for it (via USPS). Fortunately the buyer was local, so I delivered.

Kenny's right. It might be cheaper to buy and then sell.

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

Yup, college student.

Small apartment, small bedroom. Found a twin bed - lifted about 3 feet with room for storage underneath - just under $200 (mattress not included), but costs another $100 to ship (anywhere in the US). So any shipping on the bed that costs less than $200, I'm still ahead. The futon has been discussed, but can't store anything underneath.

The keyboard I have is a Technics digital piano. 3 musical theatre students - one can play pretty well, so they are looking for something decent that they can fit in a small apartment. Not enough room for an upright. They still have to measure, once they get into the apartment, whether it will fit in the larger bedroom. Unfortunately missed a relative with a van going from San Diego to Connecticut a few months back.
