Most of us met because we have something in common: the piano. Many of us go back a long time - at least 5 years.

So, do you still play the piano?

If so, how much?

Nothing is as effective as homeopathy.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

About an hour a day.

Still learning new pieces so I guess that would be considered serious.

I'm still learning new stuff. My schedule doesn't permit every day practice (frequently work late on the day before call and unavailable when on call - that's two days a week). But, I remain serious. My new teacher is inspiring. Yesterday's lesson was great, and I showed my wife some of the things he taught me and she said, "Wow, it sounds really different when you do what he says."

Not too often since the boy, but I'll dive back in at some point.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Yeah, kids do that to you. I keep wondering how good I'd be had I not stopped playing when I went to medical school, residency, practice, raising kids, etc. 30 years...

I gave up.

On the positive side, I've started playing the sax again, and I still enjoy mangling the guitar.

Have not played seriously in a couple years, since I stopped lessons to help save for my house. But I'll get back to it soon. I have a room waiting for my piano.
As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

I still play - my level of seriousness waxes and wanes.
I still learn new things, but tend to burn out on them quickly, so I don't always take everything to "performance" level.

Picking up some old ones recently that I haven't read the music to in years: Beethoven Waldstein, a couple Chopin Etudes and Impromptus, and have also been playing with some "new stuff" of my own creation.

Really looking forward to getting some drums soon so that I can start doing some covers/recordings of both drums and piano and/or keyboard.

Depends on what you want to spend...for recording, I reccommend you hunt the used drums for a set of Tama Starclassic Performers...not the B/B shells, but the birch ones.

They are wonderful in the studio. Why Tama changed the shells is a mystery to me...the SP's were the best of the best of the affordable pro-quality kits.

I still play almost every day for at least an hour or two. By almost I mean I will skip weekends sometimes.

Jolly: I'd really like a set of Starclassics, though right now I'm in a small home, and would like to really play aggressively, which I won't do with an acoustic kit - it's why I sold my DWs a few years back. Right now I'm holding out to get a kit of Roland v-drums for home, and if I find people to play with at some point (which I'd really like to), I'll hopefully have a practice space where I can get an acoustic kit again. Better yet, I'll move into a house with a basement where I can finish with a studio, and put piano, drums, and a Crate half-stack down there with a guitar/bass so that folks can come over and jam with me.

There wasn't an answer for me. I will go to my piano about every 3 months and attempt Mozart's Ah vous dirai - je Maman (Twinkle Twinkle Little Star). All the other pieces I used to be able to play, I don't bother with -- they were Intermediate to Beginning Advanced.

Other interests have taken up my time.

You sound like my son.

Yeah, I know he's small-time, but he won't even unzip the drum cases for less than $100, much less sit down and jam.

There's an old joke, "why would somebody become a drummer?
So he can hang out with musicians."
In my case I became a piano salesman so I can hang out with pianists. So I want all of you guys to keep playing.

Oh great - and now the drummer jokes start. Don't forget - the piano's just an 88 piece drum kit.
I agree - lots of bad drummers out there - I just think they're roughly on part with the number of bad guitarists, bassists, vocalists, and keyboardists that make up most bands.
There are strikingly few exceptional musicians out there, be it piano performers, rock musicians, etc. Lots and lots of people who can hit all, or most of the right notes though - just check youtube! :)
