When we lived in Florida my sister, who must have been 11 or so at the time, found a banana spider in her room. Here's a photo, and that's about the size of the one she found:

She slept in the living room that night and the next day my mom killed the spider. So we thought.

Years, years later my mom confessed she never could find the thing. Sister shuddered even then from the safety of upstate New York.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

We had a wolf spider on our kitchen ceiling once. That expression scream bloody murder -- yep.

Regular spiders, mmm okay, but big or furry ones, no.

We caught a giant wolf spider in our basement and I put it in an aquarium box..

came to find out it was poisonous.. so I took it FAR outside and released it.. this was years ago.

My daughter told her class that we owned a poisonous spider and her teacher called her a liar. I didn't say anything for several years.... but I did mention to her that the spider story was true eventually... you should have seen her face.

Is that a picture of the actual spider that your sister caught????

it behooves me to behold

As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good?

Yeah, but I'm in good company. I know Mark told us about his hatred of the IRS a second time, forgetting he had already posted about it a long time ago.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Wolf Spiders are a common spider here in the Western half of the United States. They're not harmful, and aren't agressive. They're actually a really cool spider. They're one of the few spiders that have decent eye sight, and their unique eye configuration allows them to see well at night as well. They are extremely fast - they're part of an elite type of spiders known as "hunter spiders" because they don't use webs to catch prey, but hunt their prey on foot.
They're usually not huge around here, but in the winter when spiders come inside to find food, we often have them running across the floor. Our Rottweiler Izzy likes to eat them, and we're perfectly ok with that. She's our house spider hunter.
She's quite amazing at catching spiders on walls, windows, and of course on the floor.
