If only. N.London, 'Pelangi', a Penangite-owned restaurant, husband is the chef, and they have a separate hawker menu. As authentic Malaysian food as ever I tasted outside Penang. Hokkien mee, Laksa, etc.

Incidentally, I haven't heard the word scallions for a long time, we generally call them spring onions in Blighty

dinner tonight

some steaks marinating in red wine, olive oil, sesame oil, provencal herbs and twigs of fresh rosemary from the garden

alongside will be asparagus, and i think tonights wine will be a valpolicella from veneto.

happy easter to whoever celebrates, and happy last day of passover to everyone else.

I saw several photos yesterday of grilled onions, poached eggs, and toast... quite the buzzing accompaniment as of yesterday.

I actually grilled green onions with thin pork loin steaks.. no eggs or toast tho... actually son #2 did the awesome grilling. I have a huge bag of onion sets to plant... and no energy to do it... thanks goodness for boys.

it behooves me to behold

Happy Passover to you, Reb Bach.

We're grilling lamb -- just finished the 8 hour marinade -- with a roasted pear and shallot salad, grilled white asparagus, orzo, and for dessert an apple and blackberry cake with calvados.

I'm going with applesauce, some toast, and a lot of water.

Blech.
The problem with having an open mind is that people keep trying to put things in it.

I'd rather listen to an hour of Abba than an hour of The Beatles.

We had one of our old standbys. Coconut-basil chicken over brown rice.
In my defense, I was left unsupervised.

Love rabbit, also brown rice. Actually I have Kenny to thank for that. Trader Joes brown frozen rice is a staple at my house. 3 minutes and you are there.

My rice cooker takes longer than that, but its perfect every time and no doubt cheaper than TJs.

Is like 30s of effort, and you're there in 30m or so.

Yes, I buy that too. The frozen organic brown, it's fairly low carb.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinner
Quote:

Dinner used to be the name of the main meal of the day. Depending upon culture, this may now be the second, third or fourth meal of the day.[1] but, originally, it referred to the first meal of the day, eaten about noon, and is still occasionally used in this fashion if it refers to a large or main meal.

...

In some usages, the term dinner has continued to refer to the largest meal of the day, even when this meal is eaten at the end of the day and is preceded by two other meals. In this terminology, the preceding meals are usually referred to as breakfast and lunch. In some areas, this leads to a variable name for meals depending on the combination of their size and the time of day, while in others meal names are fixed based on the time they are consumed. However, even in systems in which dinner is the meal usually eaten at the end of the day, an individual dinner may still refer to a main or more sophisticated meal at any time in the day, such as a banquet, feast, or a special meal eaten on a Sunday.
