What are the advantages and disadvantages? Perhaps a better question, are there any disadvantages to staying with 10.5.8? |

At this point I wouldn't bother. There are major advantages to Snow Leopard (speed, size of applications, and a lot of under-the-hood things you're not aware of), but, with Lion coming out this summer - which is a MAJOR upgrade - I'd probably just wait for that. Remember, the enemy of good is better. |

No ... even though Snow Leopard is great, significant improvement over 10.5.8, we don't think you are cool enough for Snow Leopard. So why don't you take the time to become cooler while waiting for Lion? |

I hate these names invented by marketing weenies! ![]() How the fark am I supposed to remember if I have Tiger, Lion, Panther, Leopard, Bobcat or just Pussy? Just call them 10.x.y, which is what Jon had to write anyway for clarification. |

I agree. The worst is when a product has one name while it's in development, and another name after it releases. |
| As a good person, I implore you to do as I, a good person, do. Be good. Do NOT be bad. If you see bad, end bad. End it in yourself, and end it in others. By any means necessary, the good must conquer the bad. Good people know this. Do you know this? Are you good? | |

Yes, Lion comes out this summer. I did upgrade to Snow Leopard maybe a year ago -- freed up a huge amount of space on my hard drive, and it runs pretty fast. |

It was a remarkable update at the time. Pretty much everything was under the hood. Some new features, but not many. They took Leopard and tweaked the hell out of it. That's one of the reasons a Macbook Air can cold boot in 15 seconds. My machine cold boots in about 45. Srsly, wait for Lion - version 10.7.1. Don't be an early adopter if you're at all uncomfortable. There are sure to be some early bugs that will be fixed in the first update. |

I'm about to upgrade to 10.6. I bought a new camera, Nikon D7000. 10.5.8 and iPhoto 8 cannot read the RAW files from it. I have to upgrade. RAW files are the way to go for the best quality. JPG sucks. I'm buying the disks for 10.6.3 for $29. Then after upgrading I have to do an online upgade to that to 10.6.7. Then I can go to the apple app store, set up an account and buy iPhoto for only $14.99. For the last 3 days to use my new RAW files I tried using a free 30-day tiral of Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 with Camera Raw 6.3 and it sucked. ![]() I'll be so happy to get back to iPhoto. |
